8 Simple Rules formerly titled "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" is based on the best-selling book series of the same name. The series follows the lives of the Hennessy family, who in the second and third seasons, dealt with the loss of their father and family patriarch, Paul, and the next chapter in their lives. His wife Cate, now a single mother, is still with a full time job at the hospital and still tries to raise her three kids: Bridget, Kerry, and Rory. Luckily for Cate, her father Jim and her crazy nephew C.J. have decided to stay at her home and help her raise her children.

8 Simple Rules starred John Ritter as Paul Hennessy, Katey Sagal as Cate Hennessy, Kaley Cuoco as Bridget Hennessy, Amy Davidson as Kerry Hennessy, Martin Spanjers as Rory Hennessy, James Garner as Jim Egan, and David Spade as C.J. Barnes.

8 Simple Rules enjoyed three successful seasons on the ABC network, but was abruptly canceled after the end of the third season due to dwindling ratings. The series has been caught in syndication and is not scheduled for a DVD release as of now.
