In Case of a Bolt from the Blue - Recap

The scene opens with Michael on the operating table. Anna is there and tells him that he needs to tell someone. He screams, but wakes up from the nightmare. He can’t believe that Anna is invading his dreams now too. He feels a sharp pain. He goes into Clinica Sanando and finds that Tavo has been replaced by a man named Hector. He tells him to take a seat and Michael laughs and asks if he looks like a patient. Hector points out that Michael is limping and Michael says that he pulled a muscle playing hockey. He tells him that he needs to bring him the chart of the first patient. Michael goes into the patient and he has the chart mixed up. He goes up to Hector and tells him that he gave him the wrong folder. Hector says that Autumn was helping him out. Michael asks Autumn what is going on and she says that she didn’t pull it either. A picture falls out and it is Anna with Mary Palanco. He sees that the folder is labeled Syndrome X. He goes up to Autumn and asks about it and she says that it is a mixture of different conditions. Michael realizes that Mary had been getting home visits and says that she is an agoraphobic shut-in.

Michael goes to the medicine locker and finds Anton in a room smudging. Anton sees that Michael is limping and he says that it is nothing. Anton offers to help him, but he declines. He gets into the locker and tells Anton that Mary Palanco hasn’t had her insulin for months and that she is a shut-in. He limps out and Autumn says that she can’t believe that they had a patient fall through the cracks after Anna died. Michael is sarcastic and says that it never happens. He says that someone needs to check on Mary and Autumn says that she nominates him. However, he says that he is busy. He gets a call from Rita who tells him that his appointment canceled. Autumn tells him that she overheard that his appointment canceled. Michael still refuses and Anton says that closure would be good since it is Anna’s unfinished business. Michael says that he is going home and asks what will happen if he refuses to go. Suddenly a patient runs into Michael with a toy lightsaber in the groin. Anton says that was his answer right there and that he has to go.

Autumn and Michael go to Mary’s house and she confuses Michael as Robert, her ex-husband. They tell her that they have her medication. Mary doesn’t recognize Anna’s name and Autumn shows a picture of Mary and Anna together. Michael and Autumn are invited in and Michael takes Mary’s blood pressure. Michael says that Anna is dead bluntly when Mary tries to fight them. Michael says that they are going to go to the clinic, but she says that she doesn’t like crowds. Michael says that he is going to give her insulin and then they will go. Meanwhile at the clinic, a boy named Dante comes in with his mother. He says that he is suffering a heart attack. However, when Kate comes in, she knows who he is. Dante is a hypochondriac who thinks that everything is wrong with him after he reads about it. Kate tells Dante that everything is fine. Zeke comes in and sees that Dante is there. Back at Mary’s, Autumn and Michael are trying to get Mary outside to go to the clinic. Anna is there and asks what is going on. Michael gets told that Robert and Mary had a fairy tale wedding. Suddenly she has a different attitude and says that she has a meeting. Anna says that she was a VP to a big corporation. Michael says that they need to get to the clinic.

Back at the Clinica, Zeke tells Kate that Dante has been bullied verbally and says that it is clear that it is this. Kate comes in and tries to get Dante’s attention. Kate looks in his ear and tells Zeke to look in it as well. He says that the eardrum burst. Kate asks if a bully did this and his mom tells them that he was home today. They go out and Kate asks if the mom could have done this. Zeke says that they need to separate them both. Suddenly Michael and Autumn get in with Mary and Michael tells Hector that they need a room. Autumn goes off with Mary to sit down, but is interrupted by a man yelling. Mary collapses and Michael lifts Mary up. He pulls more of the issue he is having. Kate is talking to Dante and asks who hurt him. He says that she can’t tell his mom because he was out when he wasn’t supposed to. Kate takes a look at Dante’s back and sees that he has a mark across his back. She asks him if he knows how he got the mark on his back. He says that he doesn’t. Zeke goes up to Michael and asks for help with his patient. However, Michael says that he has problems with his patient and that he has a lot on his plate. Zeke sees that Michael is sweating and limping even more. He asks what is wrong with him and he says that it is just the realization that he will never play pro hockey. Zeke says that is not it and says that he can tell that it is a hernia. Michael tells him to leave him alone about it.

Kate comes in and tells them that once they are done with their “tickle” fight, he can help her with Dante. Zeke warns Michael that he can hurt himself really bad if he doesn’t treat it. Zeke goes up to Kate and she asks what is wrong with Michael. Zeke keeps quiet about the hernia and says that he’ll get back to her on that. They look on the internet as to what could be wrong with Dante. Kate finds out that it is a Lichtenberg Figure from being struck by lightning. They realize that this happened to Dante. They tell his mom and she can’t believe that Dante got struck by lightning in the middle of a snow storm. Kate and Zeke tell the mom that it is possible that Dante will have some neurological problems because of this, but they have a doctor on site that specializes in this kind of thing. However in another room, Michael is feeling the pain from his hernia and collapses on the ground. He calls for Rita and tells her that he has a hernia that has strangulated. She tells him that she is calling a private ambulance for him and says that if he walks out of there like nothing is happening, she will kill him herself. Kate comes up and asks for his help with a patient, but Dante is gone. The private ambulance is there and tells them that they are there for Michael. He tells them to get Mary and take her to Holt Neuro. He tells Kate that is why he can’t stay around. Zeke says that Michael should accompany her and he says that is a good idea.

They get outside and there is a couple in the ambulance. They tell him that they didn’t know that they were picking up a patient and Michael. He tells them to go and he will follow in his car. However, he doesn’t make it and passes out in the snow. Later, Kate comes out to get some fresh air and finds Michael there. He says that he has a strangulated hernia. Zeke and Kate tell Michael that they are going to operate there at the Clinica. Michael is awake with a local. He talks to Kate and Zeke and they tell him not to tell them what to do. He says that he wants to close it up, but Kate calls him the worst patient ever. Dante’s mother comes in and says that Dante never came home. Rita comes in and finds Michael recovering. She tells him that she is taking him to Holt Neuro to recover. Zeke comes in and asks if they have seen Dante. Rita says that he is going with her. Anton goes in the back room and finds Dante on the floor. He is scared and asks why his head hurts. Michael comes in and Dante starts to have a seizure. He tells Rita to make room in the truck.

They take Dante to surgery and Michael is running the surgery from behind the glass. They ask if it is wise that he is doing this hopped up on drugs. He tells them if they don’t like his council, they could find another place to work. Zeke tells them that Michael refused the treatment. Michael checks on Mary and Rita says that she has been wetting the bed. Michael realizes that Mary’s condition is something that is easily treated. They tell her that she is going to be fine and that they will fix her problem. She thanks them. Later, Michael wakes up to find Anna there. He says that he felt like she feels and gets it. Rita comes up and catches him talking to no one. Michael says thanks to Rita. Kate comes up and says that Michael is a control freak and Rita says that they need to have a long lunch. Later, Rita comes into Michael’s office to find Mary there. She asks if she wants her to find Robert for her. She tells her that Robert is a lowlife that took her for all she had in the world. She says that she crawled into a hole to die, but Rita says that it is never too late. She says that she has battled her share of demons. Michael makes his rounds and Anton is with Dante and his mom. Dante says that Anton told him that every Shaman has been called through lightning. Michael says that the greatest composers were struck by lightning. He says that he can do anything. The episode ends.
