| Series 4: Part 2 |
|
Released On: February 05, 2002 Region: 1 Production Company: BBC Warner
Description: The babes of boozeland are back and drunker than ever in the fourth season of the Britcom Absolutely Fabulous. Even after a five-year hiatus, the main characters are unchanged, and the only giveaway that things are different is Eddy's defection from Lacroix to Burberry. Devoted fans will appreciate that this season (which also has the usual dieting, drinking, and manhunting) goes where no Pats and Edina have gone before, from a PR gig with Twiggy to menopause. What's more frightening: Patsy going through "the change" or the two dames dressed to the nines... for a night of moshing at a Marilyn Manson concert? If you're new to the series, have no fears; it won't take long to figure out that Edina (Jennifer Saunders) is the queen of excess, an extraordinary drinker and dieter but horrific mother. (Her daughter, Saffron--played by Julia Sawalha--is the levelheaded one, although as a young adult, her character has less purpose than in previous years.) Patsy (Joanna Lumley) is Eddy's sidekick, with a figure to die for--or at least paralyze for, as her experiences with youth-enhancing Parralox show. This is not a series to miss.

Released On: July 11, 2000 Region: 1 Production Company: BBC Warner
Description: This is not your parents' sitcom. Two middle-aged tarts smoke, swallow, and bed everything in their paranoid paths and are all the more fun for being so unabashedly vulgar. Jennifer Saunders stars as the queen of excess; Joanna Lumley is her promiscuous best friend in this groundbreaking, side-splitting satire. Created by the uninhibited team of Saunders and Dawn French, the series was written by Saunders. This set includes all 18 of the 30-minute episodes from the British TV series; the less-than-thrilling 30-minute midseason special, How to Be Absolutely Fabulous. Anglophiles and anarchists will love this, but consider yourself forewarned--it is strictly adult material.

| Series 2: Part 1 |
|
Released On: July 11, 2000 Region: 1 Production Company: BBC Warner
Description: The beginning of series two (recorded in late 1993 and origanally transmitted in Britain in early 1994) got off to a great kick start with the classic episode, Hospital, where Patsy (played by delectable actress, Joanna Lumley) wishes to have cosmetic surgery but all goes horribly wrong. It was clear the series was back and was better than ever. Jennifer Saunders is even more flamboyant in the second series and is even more hilarious in doing so. It was quite obvious that the cast had become accustomed to their roles and it really shines through, with the series being in full swing. Both Saunders and Lumley sparkle together through these episodes as does the highly talented, Jane Horrocks in the role of the dizzy and totally incompetent, Bubbles. Horrocks is given more screen time than in the first series and her effective contribution is essential as are Joanna Sawahala as Edina's downtrodden daughter, Saffy and also June Whitfield in the amusing role of Edina's completley batty mother. All performances compliment the razor sharp script that bubbles with continually witty repartee. Totally superb. Other episodes on this video are classics (but then every episode of it's entire run was a classic) with Death, steering comfortably and gently into black comedy and the ultimate best on the video, Morrocco, where Eddy, Pats and Saffy go over there to promote Edina's new business venture, Pop Specs (the "in" sunglasses to wear, according to her). It's totally hilarious from beginning to end it's unique quality never falters. There has not been a funnier programme in Britain since this classic. Excellent and highly recommended!

Released On: July 11, 2000 Region: 1 Production Company: BBC Warner
Description: From the very first episode it was clear that this was going to be a smash hit success. This classic British comedy series starred the highly talented writer and actress, Jennifer Saunders as Edina Monsoon, head of an incompetent fashion business. Also in the cast are Joanna Lumley as foul mouthed, chain smoking, Patsy Stone, Edina's so called best friend. It is interesting to see Lumley shed her previously squeaky clean, aristocratic image to play a character who's every other word is either a swear word or something blatantly vulgar. She is an absolutley essental part of the series as Saunders and Lumley sparkle together as a pair of drug taking, promiscuous pair of alcoholics. Also included are comedy veteran, June Whitfield who was renowned for her role in the sitcom, Terry And June and appeared in a handful of the Carry On films and finally Julia Sawahala as Edina's poor put upon daughter, Saffron who plays the character perfectly.

Released On: September 01, 1998 Region: 1 Production Company: 20th Century Fox
Description: For the true Absolutely Fabulous junkie, this video is a retrospective of the entire series, bringing together the one-liners and scenes closest to our hearts. Framed with a video Eddy is shooting at her mother's charity store, each segment represents a different chapter in Eddy and Patsy's lives. Remember their teenage years, survey all of Patsy's boys and Eddy's husbands, take another look at the fashions they've worn and the alternative therapies they've tried. Everyone is here: Marshall, Saffy, Bubbles, and the rest. While this may not be the best introduction to the series (work your way through individual episodes for that), it's a great resource for die-hard fans who want Edina and Patsy's best in one viewing. The tape includes bloopers and previously unseen footage.
