Series 1 introduced the characters of Edina, Patsy, Saffy, Bubble and Mother for the first time. Set in Holland Park, London the series followed the exploits of Edina and her work shy friend Patsy. Disapproving of their antics throughout all 6 episodes is Edna's daughter Saffy who lives in the shadow of Edina's son Serge who is never seen.

The series included an episode filmed on location in France where Patsy and Edina ended up staying in the wrong accommodation. Other highlights included Patsy trying to organize a fashion display yo appear on television and Saffy organizing a fortieth birthday party for her mother.
