Jim and Cheryl underlying love for each other guarantees they are in this marriage for keeps. Blessed with five adorable down-to-earth kids, Ruby (Taylor Atelian), Gracie (Billi Bruno), Kyle (Conner Rayburn) and twins, Jonathan and Gordon. Jim continues to support his family as a contractor in a design firm with his architect brother-in-law, Andy (Larry Joe Campbell). To feed his other passion, music, he carves out time to play the blues with his six-man garage band.
Cheryl, for her part, is gorgeous, smart, and has Jim's number. She enjoys their playful banter and appreciates his passion, honesty and steadfast loyality to her and the kids. Though Cheryl always seeks perfection and control in what she does, she's grateful to Jim when he coaxes her playful side out into the open.
This season finds Cheryl (Courtney) had the twins and raising them along with the rest of the family, and Andy who finally finds a girlfriend, and how he's going to handle it. Also, who was made Junior Partner at Grounds Up Design, continues his hopeless quest to be treated as an equal by Jim. Cheryl's sister and best friend, Dana (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) moves away with her husband (Mitch Rouse), and son, Tanner.
