However, while under the effect of the drug, the patient may lose his inhibitions, but he does not lose self-control, which means that Will would not have told anything he did not want to.

This refers to "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves," the adventure tale of The Book of One Thousand and One Nights where Ali Baba speaks these magic words to open the door of the cave holding stolen treasures and riches, just like the Rambalbi page kept in Khasinau's vault.

First synthesized in 1935, the proper name for the drug is thiopental sodium. A yellow water-soluble crystal, it is classified as an ultra-short acting barbiturate, a type of drug that depresses the central nervous system, slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure; in other words, it's a sedative. Widely used in medicine as an anesthetic during surgery, it is injected into the patient to produce rapid unconsciousness. Sodium Pentothal received the nickname "Truth Serum" because its effects, guided by the psychiatrist in therapy sessions, caused the patient to become very communicative, verbalizing thoughts easily without inhibition.
