The staff revealed that this was originally intended to be the series finale when they thought 'American Dad' was going to be cancelled. That's why they followed the stage production's ending for 'Little Shop {of Horrors}' and had the hot tub successfully kill both Francine and Stan by the end.

Haley appears briefly in this episode but had no lines and Klaus doesn't appear aside from a very quick glimpse in the car when the family drives away.
