Stan gets passed up to speak at the Republican National Convention and is desperate to speak at anything Republican. When he creates a play based on Abraham Lincoln and his close male friend, a local chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans choose Stan to be their speaker (which unnerves Stan when he learns that the Log Cabin Republicans are known for having male homosexuals as their members).

Before going on the boat, Stan is asked who is the only person to win an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Tony in the same year and incorrectly answers that it's "the guy from Monk" (Tony Shaloub). The correct answer is Bob Fosse, who won a Tony for Pippin, an Emmy for Liza With A 'Z', and an Oscar for Cabaret all in 1973.

Episode Quotes

Stan: Wait. You got gay from Lincoln Lover? Boy, you people really grasp at straws.

Francine: You want to have sex with a man?
Stan: Francine, that's the fourth time you've said that. What doesn't make sense to you?
Francine: We're married. I'm your wife.
Stan: God, you can be so selfish. I'm doing this for me.

Brett: Stan, I'd like you to meet my partner, Tino.
Stan: Partner? What, are you guys, cops? Partners in a law firm? Tennis partners? Golf partners? Synchronized swimmers?
Tino: You might say I'm Captain Derickson to his Lincoln.

Steve: So then it's cool to alienate gays?
Stan: Yes, it is, son. Gays are the new blacks.

Stan: I was his bodyguard and he was my everything. Let me take you home, Abe, one last time.

Stan: You're typical homosexual male will be in great shape, well-dressed, wearing sandals, holding a brightly-colored drink, and listening to Celine Dion.
Steve: (gasp) I own sandals.
Stan: Yes, but you can't pull 'em off.

Stan: Greg and Terry, handsome, successful, elegilble bachelors. We really should set them up with some nice women. Hey, how about your sister?
Francine: Uh, I don't think so, Stan.
Stan: Yeah, you're right. She's too hot. God, is Gwen hot! And slender, God! And that dress she wore at our wedding? Oh, I have never seen her more beautiful than on that day.

Republican #1: Stan, Nancy Calliope has been kicked out of the Langley Conservatives.
Stan: What? Why?
Republican #1: We just found out her second car is a Prius.
(crowd gasps)
Republican #2: Terrorist!

Stan: Terry, I heard you tell Greg that its open season, and you're the only gay guy I know who's still in town, so I was hoping to take you to dinner and then afterwards have sex with you. If my terminology is correct, I'm a power top.
Terry: I'll get my jacket.

Steve: Didn't we already go through a security check?
Stan: Oh, they aren't checking for weapons here. They're checking for something far more dangerous --- gay.

Episode Goofs

According to the "We're Red and We're Gay" song and further implied by Terry when he argues with Greg over his political leanings, the Log Cabin Republicans support the ban on same-sex marriage. In real life, the Log Cabin Republicans (despite their right-wing affiliation) support equal rights for same-sex couples, including the right to be married.

In this episode, Stan first finds out that Greg and Terry are gay and is shocked, but in season one's "Roger 'n Me," Stan and Roger were on the game show "Best Buddiez!" along with Greg and Terry and Terry tells Stan point-blank that Greg is gay.

Cultural References

Stan:...I'll be a regular Sondheim.

Stan is referring to Stephen Sondheim.

Stan: A gay would have said "Equal Rights Amendment."

The Equal Rights Amendment states that gay people should have the same rights as straight people.

Stan:...Celine Dion

Celine Dion is a very popular and well known Canadian singer.

Lincoln Lover

Lincoln Lover is quite obviously a play about Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States.
