Despite the fact FOX.com labels the first seven episodes as Season One, after researching it and exchanging messages with people I changed the seasons back to what the general consensus is regarding the labeling of the American Dad episodes/seasons.

----

Since this response has been used publicly on another forum I figured I'd update it with the most current reasoning for keeping TVRage the way it is.

A little back story... Early April, a moderator sent me an email from a third party saying

Quote:
This is to inform you that FOX.com recently underwent a overhaul which resulted in them renaming their American Dad seasons and episodes, and the order. They essentially broke up the existing season 1 (23 episodes), into 7 episodes. The effect was that there are NOW as of today, 7 seasons, NOT 6, as shown on their official site.

... so I changed them to match FOX.com.

Within the span of a week or so I had four people send corrections w/ one member sent me a FOX press release

stating that the 2010-2011 (100 A.D. through Gorillas in the Midst) season is indeed Season 6 even though on FOX.com, the episodes are listed as Season 7.

Also I looked at the press release for the Volume 6,

it states the episodes are entirely from Season 5 (In Country Club through Great Space Roaster), when FOX.com lists the episode as Season 6.

I also found the announcement of Season 4

http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00018556.html

...that says Season Four begins with the episode 1600 Candles, which it does.

When it was announced it was renewed through the 2012-2013 season, the release stated it was is 7th Season.

Logically this cannot be true since because at the time of this release, there appeared to be three Season 7s.
The one FOX.com dates as lasting from 10/2010-05/2011, the one that aired from 2011-2012 and the one the above claims it was renewed for 2012-2013.

When it was announced it was renewed through the 2012-2013 season, the statement says it's been renewed through its eighth season.

Also this cannot be true for the same reason above, there would then be 3 Season 8s. The one FOX.com states aired from 09/2011-05/2012, the one that aired in the 2012-20913 TV season and the one the release states its been renewed through.

Now, if you're still with me the only thing I can come up with is since the first batch of episode (‘Pilot’ through ‘Deacon Stan, Jesus Man’) aired in the summer of 2005 & not during an official TV season, FOX.com has labeled them as Season One.

When the rest of the initial 19 episode order debuted during the official 2005-2006 Fall season they were called "Season Two" by FOX.com despite being part of the first season production episodes. It's (most likely) the same reason Family Guy's first seven episodes are considered Season One by FOX.com as well as the general public.

Also something else to consider when trying to make sense of FOX's press release when they renew the show.
For the past 2 seasons, the airing season of American Dad has consisted of episode from the previous production season... Meaning

The aired Season 7 (2011-2012) consisted of production Season Six episode &
the aired Season 8 (2012-2013) has consisted of Production Season Seven episodes so
the aired Season 9 (2013-2014) will consist of Production Season Eight episodes which is why the latest press release states it was renewed for a Season 8.

It is interesting the general public accepts Family Guy 7 episode first season but doesn't agree w/ FOX.com that American Dad's first seven episodes is 'Season One' so I can see the logic of going by how FOX.com lists the seasons/episodes BUT if it weren't for the fact FOX's press releases & product info that describe...

Season 4 as 2008-2009
Season 5 as 2009-2010
Season 6 as 2010-2011
which ascribes
Season 7 as 2011-2012
Season 8 as 2012-2013
Season 9 as 2013-2014

It should be noted as well that Matt Weitzman said (at the time of the September 2012 interview of course),
Quote:
We have 20 episodes… And now we’re in the process of developing our ninth season, and so we’ll have an additional 22. So we’ll have 42 more episodes that nobody’s yet seen, and we’re very happy about it.

So even when American Dad does eventually get cancelled, there are potentially 2 more seasons of episodes.
