Auditions #5: Austin, Texas - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
This week they take American Idol to the “Show Me” state, Austin Texas. The judges all come in and Steven shows up in a horse drawn carriage. The hopeful’s spirits are high and there are a lot waiting for their chance to make that step onto Hollywood. The judges get settled and await the contestants.

First up is Corey Levoy and he tells that he has his sister that he found after not knowing her for 16 years. He comes in and he tells that his sister is his best friend. They have Brookes, his sister, come in and she is going to judge alongside them. He starts to sing and he has a decent voice. Randy tells that he has a pretty good voice. Jennifer tells that he has a nice singing voice and he gets a round of “heck yeah” as the answer. He finds out that he is going to Hollywood.

Holly Cavanagh comes on the scene and originally is from Liverpool England. She sings and has a voice there, but it is not that strong. Randy tells that she is not ready. Jennifer gives her another chance to redeem herself. She sings “The Climb” and it is amazingly better. Jennifer and Steven say yes to her and Randy changes his vote and says yes as well. Holly is able to get her ticket to Hollywood with the second chance song.

The auditions hit a rough patch and Rodolfo Ochoa hopes to redeem the landslide, but fails horribly. Randy tells that the talent is not going the way he wants and Jennifer tells that his voice is not that good. The rough patch continues with the “coyboys” and it hasn’t been good to find one that can sing at all. The judges are getting tired of the bad talent and it shows.

Closing day one and hoping to change the minds of the judges is a “cowboy” who is up to show that they have talent. John Wayne Schulz comes in and he is a authentic cowboy. He tells that he comes from a wonderful family and has come to audition to fulfill a promis to his mother. He enters the stage and he starts to sing. His voice has a nice country twang. Jennifer tells that he felt the passion in his voice and it was really good. Steven tells that he liked it and Randy agrees. John Wayne gets his ticket.

Day Two

The judges arrive at the location for the auditions for their 2nd day of auditions and Randy and Steven are in high spirits. Jennifer comes dressed up and dolled up with fiery red lips. They get settled in their seats hoping to hear some talent.

Kicking off day two of auditions is Courtney Penry and she has a severe crush on Ryan Secrest that makes her cry. She tells that she is going to marry him one day. She enters and tells that she can act like a chicken and starts to cluck. She starts singing and it is amazingly good despite the chicken clucking. All the judges give her a ticket to Hollywood.

The good acts continue to come as Shauntel Campos, Alex Carr and Caleb Johnson audition and they all get their tickets to Hollywood. Day two becomes ticket frenzy and love is in the air for Texas. Keeping that love alive are Jacqueline Dunford and Nick Fink, boyfriend and girlfriend. They audition and they are in love. Jacqueline auditions first and she has a good voice. Nick sings and he has a good voice as well. Jennifer tells that they both did a good job and they have their own twists. Steven tells yes and Jennifer and Randy agree. The lovebirds move onto Hollywood.

Janelle Arthur comes up next and she is from Tennessee. She tells that she has been waiting for her moment for a long time. She comes in and sings. Randy interrupts her and tells that he has heard enough. However, it is good because Janelle can really sing. The judges have no hesitation and tell her that she is going to Hollywood.

However the winning streak had to end and this sets off a montage of bad acts that make you cringe. Hoping to close the day on a good note is Casey Abrams. He is the last to audition and has a melodica with him. He sings his song and it is amazingly good. They all tell him that he is going through to Hollywood and start to dance around as Casey plays the melodica. All in all, 50 contestants made their way to Hollywood. Next is Los Angeles!
