7 Finalists Compete - Recap

With Paul McDonald saying goodbye last week, Casey Abrams, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Haley Reinhart, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, and Stefano Langone are left to battle it out for the American Idol spot. Tonight is music from 21st century. Ashton Jones, Pia Toscan, Naima Adop, Thia Megia Karen Richardson and Paul McDonald perform “So What” and they show that they are still in the music business. Except when Paul comes in, it goes a little south. However the audience loved it. Randy tells them to come back and Steven tells that they made America just think about their decision.

Scotty McCreery is up first and the contestants tease him about the way he holds his microphone. Tonight he is going to be singing “Swingin” by Leanne Rymes. He comes out on stage and gives it his all. At the end, Steven tells that he would love it if he did some boot scootin. Jennifer says that he needs to push past his comfort zone and felt that they were expecting more. Randy tells that Jennifer is correct and Randy says that he has to bring it really hard. He says that it could have been better for him. Ryan asks how it felt. Scotty tells that it felt good.

James Durbin is next and the contestants tell that James in the rocker and tease him about the scarf tail. Tonight he is singing “Uprising” by Muse. He comes out and is amazing at hitting the high vocals and gets a standing ovation. At the end, Jennifer says that was the best performance of the night and says that it was amazing. Randy tells that he was unbelievable and says that he has to agree with Jennifer telling that it is going to be the best of the night. He says that Matt Belamy, the lead singer from Muse said that if he sings the last chorus up the octave, he is going to challenge him. He tells that he slayed it. Steven tells him to stay out of his closet and tells that it was fantastic vocals and it sounds that he is out of his mind.

Next up is Haley Reinhart and the contestants tease her about the growls and the fact that she flings her arm back. Tonight she is going to sing “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele. She comes out on stage and sings it well with her style of singing. At the end, Randy tells Haley that he is looking for what kind of direction people are going through and tells that she picked the right direction and it was a great performance. Steven tells that it was great. He says that it was slow at start and then picked it up. Jennifer says that it takes guts to perform a top album and she brought herself into the song. Ryan asks how she deals with things and she tells that people have their opinions and take it one time at a time.

Jacob Lusk and the contestants tell that Jacob is a Diva. Tonight he is going to be singing his Idol’s song “Dance with My Father” by Luther Vandross. He gets on stage and has a little mess up at the beginning with the track in his ear, but recovers from it. At the end, Steven tells that it was a beautiful thing. Jennifer tells that it is hard to perform when it means so much to them. Randy says that it was emotional, but he hasn’t been going the way he was going before. Ryan asks what happened and says that the track was drums in his ear and that is why he had to take it out.

Casey Abrams is up next and the contestants they tease him about the beard and the enthusiasm that he has. Tonight he is singing “Harder to Breathe” by Maroon 5. He comes out and puts his signature stamp on the song and at the end of the song, he kisses Jennifer on the cheek. Jennifer says that Casey has soft lips and says that she loved the performance and once again and took it all the way rock. Randy tells that it is all about surprise about Casey. He says that he loved it and tells him to keep taking chances. Steven says that people are upset because he so %#$@ good.

Stefano Langone is next and the contestants tease him about his flirting with everything that moves. Tonight, he is singing “Closer” by Ne-Yo. He comes out on stage and moves around the stage. At the end, Randy says that he thought that it was going to be jerky, but he did a very good job and he listened about taking his time. Steven says that he did a good job. Jennifer says that it was really good and that it felt like a performance.

Last of the evening is Lauren Alaina and the contestants tease her and says that Lauren is a talker. Tonight she is singing “Born to Fly” by Sara Evans. She comes out and shows that she wants to stay. At the end, Steven tells that it was good, but says that he would love to hear more Alyson Krause and Shania Twain. Jennifer says that her voice has character in her voice and tells her to let it out. Randy tells that when they first found her, and says that she can hit the notes and it was a great performance and tells her to challenge herself. Ryan asks if she believes and she says yes. The performances are done and it is up to America to vote for their favorites.
