Finalists Compete - Recap

The final showdown between Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina is underway and Ryan comes out and says that there are going to be Three Rounds. Round One is the contestant’s favorite song in the season, Round Two is going to be George Stait picking a song for Scotty and Carrie Underwood picking a song for Lauren. Round Three is going to be the song that would be the contestant’s single if they win.

They kick off the competition with Scotty singing “Gone”. He shows that he is “in it to win it” as Randy always says and does a good job.

Next up for the first round, Lauren sings “Flat on the Floor” from her favorites. She does an amazing job despite damaging one of her vocal cords during rehearsal. You can hardly tell and she does a great job as well.

They get right into Round Two of the competition and George Strait picked Scotty to sing his own song, “Check Yes Or No”. He does a good job with it and it is subtle.

Next up for the second round, Lauren sings “Maybe It Was Memphis”, a song that Carrie Underwood picked out for her to sing. She does a great job as well.

Ryan goes to the judges to sum up what they felt and who should win the first and second rounds. Randy says that America did a great job picking the Final Two. He says that Round one was Scotty, but Round two was Lauren. Jennifer says that it was an explosive opening. Round one was Scotty and Round two was Lauren. Steven says that Lauren gets Round one and Round two because she is prettier and says that they were both equally good.

Taio Cruz comes out and sings the song that everyone helped to write “Positive”. It is good and he gets everyone on their feet.

Round Three begins and Jimmy Iovine says that he has picked “I Love You This Big” as the single that will be released if Scotty wins. Scotty comes out and it is great. Randy says that he is marveling in the fact that they have the youngest players and says that it is game time and he has grown. Jennifer says that he did an amazing job with the song. Steven says that he came a long way and he proved that he took his chances and it was great. Scotty says that he is taking in every moment.

Lauren’s turn and Jimmy says that he has picked “Like My Mother Does”. She comes out and it is an emotional song as she walks down and sings to her mom. Randy says that the song choice was amazing and it was a great ode to her mother and at the end she blew it out of the water. Jennifer says that with that song she may have just won. Steven says that she is the American Idol in his eyes. They end the night with David Cook singing “Don’t You Forget About Me”.
