Hollywood Round, Part 1 - Recap

It is Hollywood Round One and for Randy, Jennifer and Steven, it is a start of the actual season as they take in half the contestants that received the golden ticket. The judges come in and take their seats. The first round consists of groups of 10 coming out to the stage and getting their time to sing without music and show that they have what it takes to deserve a spot in the next stage of the competition.

Johnny Keyser is among the first group and Heeju Han is as well. Johnny Keyser is first up to sing and he says that he is going to sing “Dreaming”. He impresses the judges. Heejun Han is up afterward and it is clear from a video that he is not confident in his singing. He does a good job and Jennifer blows a kiss to him. Gabby, Johnny, Heejun all get into the next round.

Elise Testone sings and impresses the judges. Baylie Brown shows that she has what it takes. Hallie Day also had what it takes in the next group and all of them make it through to the next round.

The next group gets ready to go out and for Jen Hirsh, the nerves are getting the best of her. However, when she gets on stage, she does a great job. Lauren Gray sings and gets too much into the music and continues. They get through to the next round.

However, it can’t all be great news as Heather Youmans messes up, Sascha Julian sounds pitchy and Candice Russell just doesn’t land it. Several other girls and boys don’t make the cut and are sent home.

The next group comes up and Phillip Phillips is one of them. He tries his best at his song choice. Reed Grimm comes up and sings “I’ve Got A Golden Ticket”. Travis Orlando comes up and makes Jennifer smile. However, it is not enough to impress. Reed and Phillip get through, but Travis is out.

As the day closes Travis isn’t the only one to go home. Among the 68 contestants that went home in Day One, Ramiro Garcia, Wolf, and Jenny Schick pack their bags and head home. The next day starts and the contestants come in and they wait anxiously. Adam Brock and other contestants come up. Adam sings “Walking In Memphis” and impresses. Jane Carrey comes up and is confident. As the results come down, Jane doesn’t get through.

A new group comes out on stage and among them are David Leathers, Jr. and Shannon Magrane to perform. Shannon starts and sings “Fallen”. She impresses. David Leathers, Jr. comes up and sings “Because You Love Me” and impresses even more. Jessica Phillips also auditions from the group and does a great job. They all get through Angie Ziedameyer and Ricky Kerr.

The competition continues as Erica Van Pelt sings and impresses to kick off the afternoon. Creighton Fraker impresses as well. Aaron Marcellus impresses the judges also. They all go great as they get through to the next round without any issues.

The next line comes out on stage and Lauren Mink comes out and sings “Alone”. The judges hear the key change. Jeremy “Dirty” Rosado comes up and Jennifer shows her goosebumps to Steven. When Symone Black comes up and sings, she does a great job. However, at the end of her performance, she starts to faint and falls off the stage. The episode ends on that moment.
