Last night 70 contestants were saved from elimination and the pressure is on at Vegas as the hopefuls are going to have to perform in groups again to see if they can handle the 50’s music. On the bus, the hopefuls get excited. They arrive at Viva Elvis in Las Vegas and settle in the hotel rooms. The groups are going to perform for vocal coaches and Peggi Blu, the “Queen of Mean” is back to drill the contestants to perform at their best.
The first group is up and Skylar Laine is struggling with getting the harmonies.The vocal coach helps her group to get the right rhythm. Skylar’s group comes out and Cari Quoyeser, Chase Likens, Skylar Laine and Colton Dixon do a great job with it. Jennifer says that they nailed the harmonies. Jennifer says that for Cari, it was shaky. Cari is eliminated from the competition.
The next group is going up singing and tells that “Rockin Robin” wasn’t good for them. One of the members gets upset and says that she is pulling the weight of the group. She says that she wants her standing moment. They get on stage and David Leathers, Jr., Jeremy Rosado, Ariel Sprague and Gabi Carrubba all sing their hearts out. Afterward, Randy says that he was impressed and Ariel continues to impress him. Jennifer says that it was great. They all get through to the next round.
Next group gets up on stage to perform their rendition of “Great Balls of Fire” with Adam Brock on the piano. They sing and Adam Brock, Erika Van Pelt, Angie Zeiderman and Shelby Tweten do their best on stage. Afterward, Jennifer says that was fun. They say that it was good. They decide to send all of them through.
Schyler Dixon, Brielle Von Hugel and Molly Hunt come out on stage and sing “Why Do Fools Fall In Love” The girls get their solo besides Molly. They sing their best and afterward, the judges like that. Steven says that he remembers making out to that song. Steven says that Molly is not going through to the next round.
This is not the only cuts that had to be made as a montage eliminates Wayne Wilson, Ashley Robles, Stephanie Renae, Aubrey Dekmeyer, Jenelle Artur and Tina Torez from the competition.
Hoping to turn things around, the next group comes out. They change the groove of the song and give it a pop feel. Reed Grimm, Elise Testone, Haley Johnson and Eben Franckewitz all do a great job. Afterward, the judges give them a standing ovation. Steven says that her beatbox is a melody and it was spot on. Steven sees the lipstick on Eben and tells them that they all are going through.
Richie Law and Jermaine Jones are next in their group of two and they are not getting the harmonies to match their deep voices. However, they work at it and the vocal coach pushes them. They get on stage and both hold their own on stage. Afterward, the judges like it and Randy says that was nice and that this paring isn’t supposed to work, but Jennifer says that it worked greatly. They tell them that they are both through.
This sets off a montage of groups members getting through as Hallie Day, Baylie Brown and Chelsea Sorrell all prove that they have what it takes to make it to the next round and are told that they blew it out of the park and says that they are all going through to the next round.
Jessica Sanchez, Candice Glover and Deandre Brackensick are the final group to sing in the first day and they push their vocals to change it to fit them. They come out and do a good job holding to the melodies. The judges get into it and afterward they give them a standing ovation. Randy says that was amazing and says that they sounded so good. Jennifer says that they have different voices coming together. They send them all through.
The judges tell the contestants that have made it through, but say that tomorrow they are going to have to make more cuts after they listen to the next day’s groups. The next day comes and the next group comes up. They sing “Jailhouse Rock” and Clayton Farhat, Scott Dangerfield, Adam Lee Decker and Curtis Gray all do their best and afterward, Randy says that was fun. He says that Curtis was a little sharp. Steven says that they were all kind of sharp. They vote and Scott, Clayton and Adam made it through. But for Curtis, it is the end of the line for him.
The Elvis feeling keeps going as Caleb Johnson, Joshua Sanders, Curtis Finch, Jr. and Joshua Ledet sing the songs from the “King” and some get through while others don’t.
The next group are taking the relaxed approached and don’t practice. Britnee Kellogg, Courtney Williams and Jessica Phillips come out on stage and give it their best. Afterward, Randy says that sometimes it was a little much. Jennifer says that Britnee did a good job, but Jessica and Courtney didn’t know the melody. The judges all vote and they put through Britnee and Courtney. This leaves Jessica to go home. She doesn’t take her rejection well and says that the judges are not looking for “real” artists.
Lauren Gray, Wendy Tayor and Mathenee Treco come up next and they are paired with Peggi Blu. She yells at Lauren and says that she needs to get going with the vocals. She asks her if she is on Ritalin and tells her to pay attention. They come out on stage and give it their best. Afterward, Lauren and Wendy get through to the next round and Mathenee is out of the competition.
The next group is up and they find out that they have Peggi Blu as a vocal coach. They show that they are good and Peggi shows a different side of her and is nice to them. They come out on stage and Jairon Jackson, Neco Starr, Heejun Han and Phillip Phillips sing “I Only Have Eyes For You”. They do their best and afterward, Randy tells them that they have to cut a lot of people today. All of them are going through to the next to the next round.
The last group of the night gets ready to perform. Peisha McPhee tells them that they are going to have to show their individuality. Creighton Fraker, Aaron Marcellus, Nick Boddington and Jen Hirsh show off their vocals the best they can. Afterward, Steven says that it was all beautiful. Randy says that it was good, but not his best. Aaron, Crieghton and Jen make it through to the next round. Nick goes home.
The remaining contestants go out on the stage for some more cuts. Those cut Gabi Carrubba, Schyler Dixon, Angie Zeiderman, Candice Glover, Johnny Keyser, Jairon Jackson and Britnee Kellogg. After the cuts, the contestants going home are crushed. They tell the cameras that they don’t want to go home. The 42 contestants who have made it through are excited, but they will be put to the test to make the Top 24 next week as they perform individually. Share this article with your friends
