Semifinalist Girls Perform - Recap

The Top 12 Girls are performing tonight and Randy, Jennifer and Steven come out in style. Ryan comes out and welcomes everyone. With 5 spots for the Top 10, the girls are going to have to show that they want to be in the competition.

First up is Chelsea Sorrell. She says that she is from a small town and takes the camera with her around the town. She says that she doesn’t want to go anywhere and says that she is there to stay. She comes out and sings “Cowboy Casanova”. Afterward, Randy says that she can sing, but doesn’t know if that was a good choice. He says that she has strong vocals though. Jennifer says that it sounded nasally and it was probably the nerves. Steven says that she sang well, but needs to watch her phrasing.

Erika Van Pelt is next and she shows the camera that she has a shy mother and she says that she wants to stop carrying around speakers and wants to pursue her music career. She comes out and sings “What About Love”. Afterward, Steven says that there is something magical about her confidence and says that it was beautiful. Jennifer says that it was nice to watch her and says that she could have pushed it out more. Randy says that she has the extra mile to go and says that she held the confidence. Ryan asks Erika if she was holding back and she says that she may have been a little.

Next is Jen Hirsh and she shows her apartment and her dog Sadie. She says that she is lucky to have her family all in California. She says that she wants to show her love for the song. She comes out and sings “One and Only”. Afterward, Jennifer says that it is a beautiful job and says that she felt the feeling in the song. Steven says that she’s got what it takes. Randy says that she has the swag and R&B vibe and says that she is one of the best singers in the competition. Ryan asks how Jen connects to Adele’s song. She says that she went through what she went through.

Brielle Von Hugel is next and she says she has her mother with her in the competition and it has been fun. She says that she wants to show that she is great. She comes out and sings “Sittin on the Dock of the Bay”. Afterward, Steven says that she has a good sense of the Blues and says that she loved it. Jennifer says that she loves that she is an entertainer. Randy says that the song was a little low at first, but she picked it up and says that she surprised him.

Next is Hallie Day. She says that she has come far and she wants to go and let loose. She spends some quality time with her husband before going to Hollywood. She comes out and sings “Feeling Good”. Afterward, Jennifer says that had some good moments and says that there was a little moment where she lost it, but she got it back. Steven says that she is beautiful and says that she did a great. Randy asks where she sees herself in music. She says that she wants to bring soul. He says that she sounded great. Hallie says that she was having fun.

Skylar Laine is up next and she says that she loves being from a small town and says that the family store has suffered a little and says that she would love to get the money to help keep the store in the family. She comes out and sings “Stay With Me”. Afterward, Randy says that this is the first time they have had a rockin’ country girl on the stage. He says that he loved the energy and voice. Jennifer says that because of her, this is her favorite song now and says that it was a great performance. Steven says that she was great and tells her to keep it up.

Next is Baylie Brown and she says that she has her grandfather with her and says that she can’t believe that this is happening to her. She comes out and sings “Amazed”. Afterward, Steven says that he doesn’t know if it is the best song for her, but he says that she is very pretty. Jennifer says that it sounded shaky all the way through and says that felt that she could’ve had a better moment. Randy says that she could have been better with the vocals.

Hollie Cavanagh is next and she says that her family is a huge support to her. She says that she wants to sing her heart out. She comes out and sings “Reflection”. Afterward, Steven says that she did it again and says that it was great and beautiful. Jennifer says that she is going to be a front runner and says that she looks forward to seeing her hair let down. Randy says that she is one of their favorites and says that she says that it wasn’t all perfect, but it was a great job.

Next is Haley Johnsen and she says that she loves to sing and shows where she used to work. She says that she is going to show a fearless side to her. She comes out and sings “Sweet Dreams”. Afterward, Jennifer says that she hopes that America can hear that she was doing a great job. She says that the song wasn’t perfect and says that she hit some great things. Steven says that some of the things were not perfect, but loved how she held her own. Randy says that it was a bit of a nightmare for him instead of a dream and was pitchy. Ryan asks about the song choice. She says that it was a great song for her and believes in herself.

Shannon Magrane is next and she says that she has a hectic schedule that she has to keep. She loves to sing all the time and says that she loves to be there. She comes out and sings “Go Light Your World”. Afterward, Randy says that she is calm and cool and every time that he hears her, he loves it. Jennifer says that she has so much passion. She says that she got goosies. Steven says that she took it up a notch.

Next is Jessica Sanchez and she says that her throat is sore. At her home, she says that her cousin is her best supporter. She comes out and sings “Love You, I Do”. Afterward, she gets the first standing ovation of the night. Randy says that she can really sing and says that one of the best of the two nights. Jennifer says that she has it all and how she uses her body and says that she is beyond her years and says that it was great. Steven says that her pitch is perfect and says that it was great.

Last of the night is Elise Testone and she says that her family have been with her all the time and says that she has had a fun time so far. She comes out and sings “One and Only”. Afterward, Steven says that was beautiful and says that it was nice. Jennifer says the song was a little rough, but says that she is one to watch. Randy says that he hopes that America gets her and says that she has a smoky flavor to her. Ryan asks how long she has pictured this moment. She says that she has been thinking of it all her life.
