6 Finalists Compete - Recap

The Top 6 perform tonight and this week they are singing songs from “Queen”. Randy, Jennifer and Steven take their seats. Ryan comes out and says that tonight the singers are going to be performing two songs. One from Queen and one from their own collection. They show a video and the finalists sit down with Roger Taylor and Bryan May from Queen. Afterward, they come out and sing together in a medley of Queen hits. They get the night started with the first singer.

First up for the night is Jessica Sanchez. She comes out and sings “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Afterward, Steven says that Rock isn’t her “forte” and that she needs to stick to the quiet things. However, he says that it was still good. Jennifer says that she needed more of the Rock performance from her. Randy says that he loved it and says that she changed her tune for it as well. He says that it was good to see her not do any runs in the song.

Next up is Skylar Laine. She comes out and sings “The Show Must Go On”. Afterward, Steven says that was over the top and says that it was great with full of energy. Jennifer says that she got “goosies” on that one and says that she loves that she articulates the story of the song. Randy says that was incredible and says that was one of her best performances on the stage.

Joshua Ledet is next and he comes out and sings “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”. Afterward, he gets a standing ovation. Randy says that was wonderful and says that he is ready to go. He says that he loved it. Jennifer says that Joshua is her favorite and says that it was so good. Steven says that he has a classic style and says that it was beautiful too.

Elise Testone comes up and sings “I Want It All”. Afterward, Steven says that she found her stride with the song and says that it was great. Jennifer says that she is in her element and that it was awesome. Randy says that was unbelievable and says that she was brilliant. Elise says that she wanted to come out and own it tonight.

Up next is Phillip Phillips. He comes out and sings “Fat Bottom Girls”. Afterward, Steven says that he loves watching him sing and says that was great. Jennifer says that even though the songs are not his, he makes them different. Randy says that he didn’t love it, but it was still good though.

Last up for the first round is Hollie Cavanaugh. She comes out and sings “Save Me”. Afterward, Steven says that she did a good job with it. Jennifer says that she felt that she got emotional in the song and says that she went off tune a little. She says that she was thinking too much of everything and says that she needs to feel the music more. Randy says that it was a good performance, but she pulled back too much with the notes and that is not a good thing in this song.

The next round begins and Jessica Sanchez comes out and sings. Afterward, Jennifer says that this was the best she has ever heard the song sung. Steven says that her voice is so different and that it is an honor to see her grow throughout the competition. Randy says that she is truly amazing and that she made the connection that she needed to.

Next up is Skylar Laine. She comes out and sings. Afterward, Randy says that he is a “ginormous” fan of hers and says that she is fearless. Jennifer says that she is comfortable and that she started off in the competition weak, but has made a comeback and proved that she is one of the best. Steven says that she needs to find songs that will take her to the other places and be able to prove even more that she can win this.

Joshua Ledet performs again on stage. He comes out and sings. Afterward, he gets another standing ovation. Randy says that he is so way beyond his age and says that this is what it is all about. Jennifer says that he is amazing and that everyone has a right to be where they are and that he has a right to be on stage. Steven says that he goes off to another place when he listens to him and that it was great.

Next, Elise Testone comes out and sings. Afterward, Steven says that this isn’t a song which everyone knows and says that she needs to stick to songs that everyone is going to be able to follow along with. Jennifer says that she slayed the song no matter what and says that she is one of the best in the competition. Randy say says that she didn’t do her best that she could do and that he felt that she was boxing with the song the whole way through. However, he says that it was still good to hear.

Phillip Phillips is up next and he comes up and sings. Afterward, Steven says that it was off the wall and says that he has found his niche. Jennifer says that it was a little too artsy for her and says that she gets scared when he does songs like those because people would be able to follow along. Randy says he showed his true colors and that he loved that he showed that he was really confident in what he does.

Last up for the night is Hollie Cavanaugh. She comes out and sings. Afterward, she gets a standing ovation. Randy says that is the Hollie they know and says that he loved it. Jennifer says that it was perfect. Steven says that it was great. That’s it for the performances! Results are tomorrow night!
