Portland auditions, Part 2 - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Day two in Portland begins and the stakes are high as usual and the hopefuls line up to prove that they have talent and want to prove that they are worthy of the prize and the headline show in Vegas. The judges get comfortable and the first act up to show the judges that he has the right talent is singing is taxi driver Soriah. As he enters the stage he is dressed in a bizarre looking outfit and begins to tube and throat singing. Right away, he is buzzed. But the judges have fun with it and show Soriah that they can do it to and that it wasn’t good enough for them.

This then sets off a montage of weird acts that include: Amazing Amy, who is a contortionist that grosses out the judges, Hart Keene is a needle swallower with a bad attitude, and Natasha the horrible singer in pink hair. Looks like Portland is caught in a snag and need a little help getting out. The judges feel that it is not starting off good for Portland so far.

One group “The Hot Shot Tap Dancers” keep it in the family and hopefully will get the city out of the slum it is in. They want to be able to perform together and be able to make a lot of money. They start tap dancing and they make it very interesting to watch. With their synchronization, the brothers and sister show that they have talent. Sharon gives them a standing ovation and backstage, a very confident father knows the answer. Howie tells that there was a unity to the dance. Sharon calls them cool and that they were perfect. Pierce said yes despite the mistake that one of the dancers made. So it is off to Vegas for “The Hot Shot Tap Dancers” and a very happy father smiles.

Next act is Isabella and Ryan and they want to bring their skill of dancing and rock climbing to the stage and impress the judges and audience. They start and it is strange but it shows that they have strength that is impressive to watch. The audience cheers them on and gives them a standing ovation in the end. Pierce tells that they did it brilliantly. Sharon calls it graceful and very beautiful to watch. Howie tells that he has never seen anything like this before. The rock climbing dance duo moves onto Vegas.

Next up after the break, young dance group “RNG” want to perform their dancing to the judges and audience. Right off the start the girls prove that they have talent with their synchronized dancing. With hip-hop dancing they dance with no mistakes. At the end, Howie called them good, but they are going to have to step it up a bit to make it past the next round. Pierce calls them amazing and agrees with Howie about that they need to make it more. Sharon and the rest of the judges agree that it is yes for the group “RNG”.

The talent keeps on coming and thus another montage. This time it is: Paul Safy JR. who showcases his voice in a jazzy type of way, “Sky Sirens” do a double trapeze act and impress the audience, and Ken Jenkins is PBC pipe drummer and drums a Black Sabbath song to which Sharon compliments the choice of music once again. Finally Portland has shown that they’ve got talent and worthy of the judges’ time.

However this ends quickly when next act up is Ryan Compton the janitor. He wants to impress with a different talent and wants to blow America away. However, his “Talent” consists of screaming in the microphone and then doing some retarded spastic dancing on stage that everyone in the audience boo him and the judges say no.

Next up to redeem Portland is Pierre from Belgium. He wants to play the harmonica for the judges. He tells that his love is the harmonica cost him a marriage. He begins playing and the crowd cheers him on. He is playing good but it looks like Sharon is unimpressed. Sharon recognizes the connection between the harmonica and Pierre. Sharon feels though, that he did a great job but doesn’t think it was good enough to continue on. Howie tells that he needs to make the harmonica contemporary and would like to see him in Vegas. Sharon sticks to her word and says no, but Pierce saves Pierre and allows him to try it again to prove that he is worth the $1 Million prize.

Last act for Portland, Ali and Christina and both have a lung disease that gets worse with age. The sister act enter on stage and they tell their story and that anyone can achieve their dreams. They start singing “The Climb”, and the girls can sing! Getting a standing Ovation from everyone in the audience, the girls sing and are emotional. Howie tells that he sees his daughters when he looks at them and wants to give them everything they want. Pierce calls the act extraordinary despite the condition they have and that it is amazing. Sharon, Pierce, and Howie are amazed and they say yes to the girls. The auditions in Portand end on an emotional note.
