The Semi Finals Part 1 - 12 Acts Compete - Recap
The Semi-Finals begin and tonight the competition is at the serious stage. Tonight performing are: West Springfield Dance Team, Daniel Joseph Baker, Matt Wilhelm, Kevin Colis, Miami All Stars, Lys Agnes, Zuma Zuma, Beth Ann Robinson, Melissa Villasenor, Sandou Trio Russian Bar, Poplyfe, and Team iLuminate. Five of the acts are going to be able to go through. Sharon says that it must be absolutely dangerous backstage. Being good is not good enough at this stage of the competition.
Zuma Zuma are first up to perform. They tell that they haven’t seen their family for 10 years and the judges tell that they look like they are having fun. They tell that one of their former members passed away recently and that they are going to be doing it for him. They comes out on stage and show that they want to win by doing bizarre tricks. Piers says that the bending is incredible and says that that was terrific. Sharon says that she loves what they do, but it is not as good as last time. She says that she still liked it. Howie says that it didn’t have the energy like last acts, but says that they are amazing.
Beth Ann Robinson is next and she says that it feels awesome that she is in the Semi-Finalist. The judges say that she has to put more emotion in their dance and fill up the stage. She tells that she is going to show the world what she can do. She comes out and does what she does best and impress the crowd. Sharon says that it was another flawless performance from her. Howie says that it was beautiful and memorizing. However it is going to be hard for her. Piers says that America should be proud to have someone with her talent is there. Piers says that she is one of the best technical dancers. Nick asks Beth Ann how long the routine takes to put together. She says that it took her a few days when normally it takes a year.
Sandou Trio Russian Bar are up and the judges don’t know what they are going to do to top it. They tell that they are not doing the bar this time around. They come out and the woman starts singing badly. Howie says that he normally a fan and says that she didn’t make the right choice. Piers says that it is the biggest suicide mission they have ever seen. He asks what they were thinking and she tells that they have a lot to offer. Sharon says that it was disappointing and to do this for a mediocre singing. She says that she admired the risk.
Up next is Kevin Colis and he is happy that he is there, but feels a little nervous. He says that he is going to have to step it up and can’t make any mistakes. He comes out and Piers buzzes. At the end, Piers says that his nerves showed and says that he missed notes and at this stage, they have to be honest. Sharon says that his performance reminded him of the Wiggles and says that it was bland and forgettable. Howie says that this wasn’t his strongest performance. Kevin says that the experience has been great and says that there is a dimension of his voice that he hasn’t shown yet.
Matt Wilhelm is up next and he says that he is going to do a show type of act tonight. He comes out and shows his talent, but he slips off the bike towards the end. Sharon says that the presentation was good and says that he made a mistake at the end. Howie says that he doesn’t know if it is the best. Piers says that the mistake didn’t make him upset about it, but says that it is repetitive and says that he may struggle tonight. Matt says that the mistake went along with his theme of getting back up again.
Poplyfe is next and they tell that they are down to business and the judges say that they have to have the right song choice. They tell that they are going to sing “Come Together” by the Beatles. They get a standing ovation by the audience, Sharon and Howie too. Howie says that they stepped it up again. Piers says that the big challenge is to have good song choice and he was worried at first, but when he heard it, they are going to be huge. Sharon tells that she loved the interpretation of the song and she says that she is looking at a winner. They tell that they feel blessed and that they are happy to be able to perform for them.
West Springfield Dance Team is up next and they tell that they never thought that they would be there. Sharon says that she wants to see something different. They tell that they have a lot of pressure and are going to give it all they got. They come out and do a great job. Piers says that they are a scary bunch and they did the best this time. Sharon says that they pulled it off again and says that the choreographers are amazing. Howie says that they stand out and says that they are definitely going to be put through.
Melissa Villasenor is next and she says that she is going to stick to her stand up act. She comes out and does Sarah Silverman, Wand Sykes, Shakira, and Christina Aguilara impersonations. Sharon says that she did well tonight and she says that she made Piers laugh. Howie says that she deserves to be there. Piers says that the great thing was that she stuck to the four voices she knew that she could do. Nick asks how many impersonations she has and she says that she has about 30 of them.
Team iLuminate perform next and they are happy to be there. They do a different act that gets everyone on their feet including the judges at the end. Howie says that he just watched $1 Million and says that the only thing that scares them that people won’t vote for them because they will think that they are safe. Piers says that they are amazing and that they are not going anywhere. Sharon says that they should have been famous and says that it is a $100 Million act. They tell that they just wanted to have fun and let others have fun too.
Next up is Daniel Joseph Baker and he says that he is finally getting accepted where he lives. He comes out and sings an emotional song. He gets a standing ovation and Piers says that when he started he was confused and when he got into it, he says that the gamble paid off. Sharon says that she really adores him and he makes everyone smile. Howie says that he is a star and that he is unique and tells him to be himself. He says that he is emotional and this is the first time his father could see him perform.
Miami All Stars are next and they are taking it up a notch and are going to show the audience something they haven’t seen before.
They get a standing ovation from everyone including the judges. Sharon says that the choreography was fabulous. Howie says that they are one of his favorite dancers. Piers says that was the best performance of the night and says that it was terrific. They tell that they will show them something different every time.
Last act of the night is Lys Agnes. She tells that before, she was in a cocoon and is now turning into a butterfly. She comes out and
Sharon says that she took her breath away and says that it was a sensational performance. Piers says that it was theatrical performance and says that this has been a really great performance. Howie says that she is a classic beauty. She says that she was just grateful that she could still sing. That is it for the performances for the night. Now America has to pick 5 acts to go through to the finals!
