Winifred "Fred" Burkle/Illyria [S03-S05], played by Amy Acker
Fred portrayed by Amy Acker first appears at the end of Angel season two as someone who is completely disoriented because of her long existence in Pylea. When Angel and the gang bring her back to Los Angeles she becomes a part of the staff as the mathematical science mind of Angel Investigations throughout the continuation of the series.
Fred develops a relationship with Gunn in the later part of season three. This relationship is seemingly happy until Gunn kills a man for Fred when she really wanted to do it herself. Their relationship never repaired after that devastating moment. Fred continued to be a major part in the series through season four stepping up her role as a more leadership figure at times. Fred was the first one to realize Jasmine was not who she said she was in season five and almost died being the only one in the world knowing who Jasmine really was.
In season five, Fred is the head of the science department. She grows close to Spike at times trying to figure out how to help him. As the series progressed she grew close to Knox, which creates animosity with Wesley. Wesley and Fred eventually tie the knot and become a couple. Unknowing to them, Knox had helped bring Illyria here to infest Fred to kill her. There relationship was short lasting. As Illyria, she tries to be what she once was as an Old One, but can't only discovering her human vessel is about to destroy her. Wesley stops this by draining her power out enough to keep her alive. Illyria fights in the series finale alongside Angel. |
