Cordelia, as ruler, only served as a "figurehead" type in Pylea. The Priests were the real ones in charge.

The prophecy in Pylea is suppose to be one with the "clear sight" that will bring in a new monarchy. This is the prophecy the Priests who have governed Pylea believe in.

The prophecy books the priests use in Pylea are three books with the faces of "wolf", "ram", and "hart" symbolizing the evil law firm, thus the true evil that exists throughout the universe.

Due to the distortion in this reality Angel is in, when he turns in to a vampire, it literally makes him turn in to this demonic form.

Episode Quotes
Cordelia: Well, it's not like my throne couldn't use a few extra cushions, but I'm not really gonna complain because, well -- throne.

Host: See there? She had a vision. That explains it. Well, see, there's this prophecy...
Angel: A prophecy. Great. Because those always go well...

Cordelia: In kind of a hurry to get back to the Cordelia's-not-a-princess-dimension, aren't you?

Cordelia: If you ever figure out how to get us out of here, I want you to find me a dimension where some demon doesn't want to impregnate me with its spawn! I mean, is that just too much to ask?

Cordelia: What is it about me, anyway? Do I put out some kind of Com-Shuk-me vibe? You'd tell me, right?

Angel: Oh, Cordelia! No, she's fine. They made her a princess.
Fred: They -- Really? Oh. When I got here they, they... didn't do that. Made me more of a, of a slave, really. Well that's... nice for her.

Lorne: You want me to go see my family? On purpose?

Cultural References
Cordelia: Off with their heads!

"Angel's Demon Side"

We see a glimse of what Angel looks like when he shows his true demonic form. In the real universe, vampires "vamp" out to only see a cross between human and demon. That would be a symbol of a shade of grey. Lorne mentions previously that Pylea is all about black and white. In theory, Angel in his "white" would be him in human form, thus him being able to walk in sunlight and see his reflection. When Angel "vamps" out, he reverts to the evil side of him, which is his full demon side.
