Episode Quotes

Spike: You want to feel disconnected, try being a bloody ghost for a bit. Try bobbin' around with no touch or taste or smell. Not many fates worse than that, I'd wager. (He sees the masked mailman walk by.) Okay, maybe that.

Wesley: Yeah. Remind me again how you ended up in the front seat.
Spike: Called shotgun, mate.
Wesley: Oh. I thought we were doing a weapons check.

(To Angel)
Gunn: Your heart is a gnarly ass piece of beef jerky.

Number Five: You are one strange man senor Angel.
Angel: Really? I'm not the strange one standing in the middle of a cemetary in the middle of the night.

Fred: So, Number Five he died a...
Angel: He died a hero.

Cultural References

Gunn: Just a little Johnny Cochran in me.

Johnny Cochran was a lawyer, best known for defending O.J. Simpson.

(To Angel)
Lorne: Word on the web is that you sucker punched Grandpa Moses.

Creates a pun based on the reference to Grandma Moses, the oldest self-taught painter.

Gunn: Still not sure why blondie-ghost tagged along.
Spike: Not much choice really, is there? Can't drink, smoke, diddle my willy. Doesn't leave much to do other than watch you blokes stumble around playing Agatha Christie.

Agatha Christie is a famous author of very mind-bending mysteries and who-done-its.

Analysis

The Mexican Day of the Dead

This is the time when Mexicans have a celebration. They believe that the spirits of their dead relatives come and visit around Halloween/All Saints Day. Whereas in earlier times, relatives were buried close by the house, now people have various places to celebrate, whether at home or at the cemetery. An altar is made and things that the relative(s) liked during their life is placed on it. There is special candy and special bread made just for this occasion.

In contrast to Halloween, when the spirits were feared, el Dia de la Muerte welcomes the spirits as long-lost relatives. In this present time, both holidays are catered to in markets within Mexico.
