Series Finale

Angel's series finale beat out Buffy the Vampire Slayers ratings in the fast nationals.

The WB Network prepared a segment at the end of the finale to show their 5 years of thanks for airing the show on their network.

This episode ranked 4th out of 10 WB shows for that week.

This episode received a 3.3 in the national ratings.

This episode received an 82 out of 104 in prime time shows.

Gunn is bleeding badly at the last battle scene.

Wesley is killed by Cyrus Vail, thus making him the last of the original Angel gang from season one (aside from Angel) to be killed.

Lorne murders Lindsey and leaves Los Angeles because he feels this job isn't his to do anymore.

Angel, Spike, Illyria, and a near dead Gunn are the only ones remaining to fight the last battle scene.

Episode Quotes
Angel: (to Harmony) I always knew you would betray me, I just didn't know when.

Wesley: There is no perfect day for me, Illyria. There is no sunset or painting or finely-aged scotch that's going to sum up my life and make tonight any...There is nothing that I want.
Illyria: You want to be with Fred.
Wesley: Yes. Yes, that's where I'd be if I could.
Illyria: I could assume her shape, make her come alive again this once for you. But you would never ask me to.
Wesley: The first lesson a watcher learns is to separate truth from illusion. Because in the world of magics, it's the hardest thing to do. The truth is that Fred is gone. To pretend anything else would be a lie. And since I don't actually intend to die tonight, I won't accept a lie.

(Wesley has just been stabbed by Vail but manages to throw a fireball at Vail, who is knocked down.)
Illyria: Wesley. This wound is mortal.
Wesley: Aren't we all? (He smiles.) It was good...that you came.
Illyria: I killed all mine, and I was...
Wesley: Concerned?
Illyria: I think so. But I can't help. You'll be dead within moments.
Wesley: I know.
Illyria: Would you like me to lie to you now?
Wesley: Yes. Thank you. Yes.
(He closes his eyes, and when he opens them again, Illyria has taken on the look and persona of Fred.)
Wesley: (fondly) Hello there.
Fred: (trying to smile through her tears) Oh, Wesley. My Wesley.
Wesley: Fred. I've missed you.
(Fred kisses his lips twice gently, sniffles, and kisses his forehead.)
Fred: It's gonna be okay. It won't hurt much longer, and then you'll be where I am. We'll be together.
Wesley: I-I love you.
Fred: I love you. My love. Oh, my love.
(Wesley dies. She sets him down, and still looking like Fred, stands to face the recovered Vail.)
Vail: How very touching his meaningless death was, but this fight was never for mortals. Oh. (He chuckles.) Take your best shot, little girl.
(Illyria swings a powerful punch at Vail's head, transforming her shape from Fred to back into blue Illyria in mid-swing, and shatters Vail's head with the force of her swing.)

Wesley: Your influence on this world is over. The rest of the circle will wither and die. (Wesley summons a ball of fire in his right hand and prepares to throw it at Vail.) Like you're about to.
Vail: You don't know who you're dealing with, do you boy. (Vail gets up from the floor and absorbs the ball of fire.) I mean really: I crap better magic than this.

Spike: Any terms of plan?
Angel: We fight.
Spike: Bit more specific.
Angel: Well, personally? i kinda want to slay that dragon. Let's go to work.

Angel: I want you to live the day like it is your last because it probably is.

Cultural References
Angel: I've always kinda wanted to slay the dragon.

The Carroll Burnett Show starred Pat Carroll and ran in the late 1960's.
Tim Conway is an actor who also starred in AirBud: Golden Retriever. He is best known for his role on the Carroll Burnett Show.
