Grace Brothers reorganizes its store. Neither Mr. Grainger, who is the head of the Men's Ready-Made Department, nor Mrs. Slocombe, who is the head of the Ladies' Intimate Apparel Department, is happy about the new arrangements. They face off in a series of territorial disputes.
Mr Lucas has a very rough day. One of the low-lights is when his note addressed to 'Sexy Knickers' fails to reach its intended recipient. A series of misunderstandings ensues when Captain Peacock gives it to Mrs Slocombe, who believes it is from him to her.
The sales figures are down and Mr. Rumbold decides to hold a sales training meeting after normal business hours. That's bad enough, but to make matters worse, the staff is expected to attend on their own time with no pay.
How do you handle a strike by the transportation workers that leaves your staff stranded at your store if you are the management of Grace Bros.? Have the staff spend the night at the store, of course. There are tents, pajamas and everything required for an indoor campout.

The best of idea of the day seems to be a fashion show. Too bad the staff has to put it on with themselves as the models.
There has been an increase in shoplifting and the management responds by installing security cameras. When the staff finds out that Mr Rumbold is using the cameras to spy on them, they come up with a scheme to put a stop to it.
Grace Bros. is closing for two weeks and the staff is delighted to find out that the company is going to send them on a (nearly all) expenses paid vacation. Unfortunately, Mr Grace is sparing as much expense as possible on the vacation.
Mr. Humphries demonstrates his skills in palmistry, and circumstances demonstrate the accuracy of his predictions for a customer. Will his predictions about staff promotions come true?
A new policy is instituted that requires the staff to log the time they spend on coffee break. This upsets the staff and the union becomes involved.
It is Mr. Peacock's 20th anniversary with Grace Bros. Instead of a raise, he gets a couple executive privileges which he lords over the rest of the staff on his floor.

Mrs. Slocombe suddenly gets promoted and the rest of the staff doesn't handle her promotion too well. She also discovers that the job isn't what she expected and maybe the promotion isn't what she wanted after all.
Captain Peacock has a problem of a personal nature that is discovered by someone in another department. He ends up agreeing to a fight, reluctantly. In the end Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe have to help him out.
The staff has been complaining about the canteen food and the canteen staff is tired of hearing about it. The staff ends up getting the job of running the canteen handed to them so that they can show that they can do it better.
As the wages at Grace Bros. have never been very good, Mr. Goldberg helps Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe to try and get better jobs.
There is a strike at Grace Bros., but the staff of the Ladies Intimate Apparel Department and the Men's Ready-Made Department do not participate. Instead, they cross the picket lines. That gets them in trouble with the rest of the staff. To make up for it they stage a Punch and Judy show for the staff's children.
The staff is quarantined in the basement because they might have caught an infectious disease from Mr. Humphries.

She lets the rest of the staff in on her secret and they all sell it under the counter. Things get more complicated however when Captain Peacock gets involved.
Mr. Humphries is sacked after being accused, and found guilty, of stealing some money from the cash register.
Mrs. Slocombe brings chaos to the department after being hit on the head and then starts thinking that she is a little girl.
The store is full of truck drivers after the staff start to advertise on Citizens Band radio.
The staff wants to get fired after Grace Brothers decided to cancel pay raises. On top of that it looks as though Grace Brothers might be bought by the Japanese. To make matters worse, a monkey has escaped from the pet department and is running free in the store.
Mrs. Slocombe's cat goes missing. Through a series of misunderstandings she ends up engaged with Mr. Humphries.
Mrs. Slocombe comes back from being sick only to discover that she is being forcibly retired because Grace Bros. has lowered the retirement age. Captain Peacock and Mr. Humphries might also find themselves facing the same fate as Mrs. Slocombe. Her replacement leaves a lot to be desired in the way she handles customers, and she doesn't get along with her co-workers either.
Captain Peacock is pursued by Miss Bagnold from Accounts, and Mrs. Peacock is jealous. Drastic measures are required for Captain Peacock to rescue his marriage.
The store is robbed during while the staff is on stock-taking night. Mr. Rumbold doesn't believe them when the contact him because jokes are traditional while taking stock. The staff attempts to catch the thieves themselves.
The staff bet on a horse race, but they can't watch it as they planned, so It's up to Mr. Humphries to mime it to them using the closed-circuit security system as he listens to it on the radio in the sporting goods department.
The staff gets the ok from Young Mr. Grace to use the shop floor after-hours in any way that will bring in money as long as he gets a ten per cent cut of the profits. They settle on opening up a night club.
It costs money to commute to and from work. The staff threatens to look for work closer to home if they don't get additional compensation for their travel expenses. They are offered flats with in the store, but living together is a lot harder than just working together.
Mr. Spooner is discovered by a record producer, and he wants him to make a demo tape. Mr. Spooner's voice keeps giving out, and they have to resort to an alternative to save the day during the performance.
