Episode 120 - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Our student tonight is Victor King, an attorney for a Cal State University branch. Hopefully he can lead by example. Mr. Foxworthy points out that Victor may not sue the kids if he doesn’t win a million. Victor chooses Spencer as his first classmate and the game is on.

Victor selects 2nd Grade Math as his first category and the question is “What is 309 rounded to the nearest hundred?” Spencer locks in his answer immediately and Victor isn’t far behind with the correct answer of “300.” Next is 1st Grade Vocabulary which asks “True or false: The word ‘stern’ refers to the front of a boat.” Stumped, Victor decides to peek at Spencer’s answer. Spencer has answered “False”. Finding it impossible to believe a fifth grader is actually smarter than he is, Victor talks himself through the issue and locks in “True” as his answer. Worse case scenario, if he’s wrong, Spencer will save him. Well, he is wrong and Spencer did save him. Victor, take a bow for that strategy.

Needing a new classmate, Victor pairs up with Jacob and selects 4th Grade Science. “The force of attraction between any two objects that have mass is called what? A. Gravity B. Friction C. Fusion”. Having built model rockets as a kid, Victor right away knows that the correct answer is gravity. Moving on to 2nd Grade Spelling, Victor is asked, “The names of how many colors in the rainbow spectrum are spelled with only three letters?” Jacob quickly locks his one answer of “One” and so does Victor. Victor now has $10,000.

Time for another new classmate and Victor chooses Alana. 1st Grade Geography is the category and “What state borders South Dakota to the north?” is the question. North Dakota is the answer. Alana knows that and so does Victor, who is now at $25,000. Moving on to 3rd Grade Measurements, Victor is asked, “What unit of power is abbreviated by the letter W?” What could possibly be the answer to this? Why, watt, of course. Victor gets that one correct and moves up to $50,000.

Victor swaps out Alana for Markie and presses on. 3rd Grade Animal Science brings a question of “True or false: The Alaskan malamute is species of fish.” Markie wastes no time in locking in her answer while Victor fishes around for the answer. He finally elects to copy. Markie has answered “False”, which is truly the correct answer. Victor now has $100,000.

Victor chooses 4th Grade World Geography and the question is “In terms of area, what is the largest desert in Africa?” Does he know it’s the Sahara? Does he think it’s the Gobi? Does he know the Gobi is in Asia? He knows it’s Sahara and violently locks it in. Mr. Foxworthy worries that Victor is answering too quickly for his own good, but still grants him $175,000.

The next category selected is 5th Grade Cultural Studies. Victor, for $300,000, “The ancient region known as Mesopotamia was bordered by the Euphrates and what other river?” Victor, looking confident with the eye of the tiger, answers “Tigris”. Victor, you now have $300,000.

The last category on the board is 5th Grade World History, so Victor chooses it. “The League of Nations was formed at the conclusion of what war?” Woodrow Wilson could tell you it was World War I, but he’s dead. So it’s all up to Victor. Fortunately, he knows the correct answer. Victor has $500,000 and has fairly breezed through the categories all the way to the Million Dollar Question.

What kind of query is worthy of the title Million Dollar Question? How about this gem from the category of 5th Grade Health? “Of the 32 teeth in the typical adult human mouth, how many are biscuspids?” The answer doesn’t really matter because Victor dropped out of school. The answer, incidentally, is eight. Now you know. And now Victor has $500,000.
