Episode Notes

On The Next Arrested Development Gag: Lindsay almost stumbles upon a dating opportunity, but instead is admitted to the hospital with a fever of 104; Michael finally gets the corporate checkbook, only to find that the family has gotten to it first; and Barry lands in jail.

Despite being seen in commercials for the episode, the mace/escalator joke was not included in the episode.

Episode Quotes

Michael: Mom, you're always asking me to help you look after Buster? You can find somebody else. I hope she doesn't kill you.
Buster: I'll kill her first!

Lucille: Yes, I have a rape horn, Michael. Because you took away my mace.

Lindsay: What was the last thing he said?
(Flashback to Tobias, covered in blue paint)
Tobias: I just blue myself.
(Back to the present)
Michael: He ... said some beautiful things.

Michael: Just to be clear; Looks like he's dead, or he is dead?
Doctor: It just looks like he's dead. He's got, like, blue paint on him or something. But he's going to be fine.

Narrator: Michael now had the distasteful choice of asking his mother for money or going to jail.
Michael: Maybe Buster killed her already.

Episode Goofs

At the police station, Oscar is wearing a wedding ring.

Cultural References

Documenter: Would you enroll your son or daughter in the Army?

Michael Moore asked this same question to Senators in the documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11.

Episode Title: The One Where Michael Leaves

The episode title is a reference to Friends where every episode title begins with "The One Where/With/..."

Narrator: Seven minutes had passed since G.O.B. had discovered the documents.

G.O.B sitting for seven minutes before reacting is a reference to President George W. Bush sitting reading a children's story at an elementary school for seven minutes after learning about the 9/11 attacks.

Episode References

(to Michael, in prison)
Barry Zuckerkorn: I’m having the time of my life!

This scene parallels a scene from the "Pilot" where George Sr. says the same thing about prison to Michael.

Visual: Lindsay's H.O.O.P shirt

Lindsay's H.O.O.P shirt is a reference back to the "Pilot" “Hands Off Our Penises” charity event.

Hiding valuables in walls

Michael discovering the secret documents in the walls of the Bluth company is a reference to "Top Banana" where Michael learns of his father's secret of hiding valuables in walls after burning down the banana stand that had hundreds of thousands of dollars hidden in the walls.

Visual: Tobias tumbling off the bed

Tobias tumbing off of the bed is a reference to "Bringing Up Buster" when Tobias tumbles onto the stage at the school play.

(after Michael is sawed out of a Christmas magic show trick)
G.O.B.: Ta-da.

G.O.B. says "ta-da" as he did in "Key Decisions" after he escaped from prison.

Tobias: The universe works in mysterious ways.

Tobias' comments about the universe are a call-back to the "Pilot" and "Public Relations" where Tobias waits for the universe to give him a sign.
