Not Your Typical Comedy ... Thank GoodnessRating: 5 likes, 0 dislikes
I was a bit leery of Arrested Development at first -- FOX generally isn't known for their comedies. But I gave it a shot and it certainly didn't disappoint. The crazy antics of the Bluth family provide for constant running gags and a unique feel to a show that I haven't seen in a long while. The show touches on subjects that are typically taboo in "normal" series -- incest, homosexuality, racism -- and turns them into cleaver and witty situations not seen on other shows.

The cast is also part of what makes the show click the way it does. From the "big-name" guest stars, Liza Minnelli to Julia Louis-Dreyfus to Jane Lynch, to the brilliant main cast members, the cast all works as a team to make the series gel together. Despite the character's flaws (which are many), they each have redeeming qualities that are the main part of their charm.

Arrested Development's mockumentary style of cinematography at times gets to be too much. Sometimes it has more of a "the-camera-men-are-trying-way-to-hard-to-make-it-feel-like-a-documentary" feel, but the non-laugh-track and mockumentary style is a main ingredient that makes Arrested Development the brilliant comedy that it is.

All in all, the Bluth family's crazy antics, genius writing staff, running gags, underlying social commentary ... (the list goes on and on) makes Arrested Development one of the best shows that FOX had to offer and one of my personal favorites.
