Episode Notes
This episode aired on Turbonick before it "officially" aired on Nickelodeon.

Sokka is seen building armor for Appa to wear during the invasion in this episode. Appa is later seen sporting this armor in the "Day of the Black Sun" Parts 1 & 2.

The episode opens with a scene of Aang training with Katara and Toph, utilizing airbending, waterbending, earthbending, and also neutral jing, as King Bumi told him to do in "Return to Omashu". During the commentary the creators said that they liked showing the group training, as it shows how far they've come, and would have liked to have done it more.

Sokka nicknames the bounty hunter Zuko hired in "The Headband" "Sparky Sparky Boom Man". He later renames him "The Combustion Man" as he feels it has a better ring to it.

Toph and Katara use Sokka's messenger hawk, Hawky, to send a letter to Toph's parents, most likely apologizing and explaining what she's been doing. This also reveals that the gang knows Toph lied to them about her parents allowing her to join the group.

Aang is wearing a blindfold while training at the beginning of the episode, most likely to teach him to "see" with his feet as Toph does. He later uses this technique in "Sozin's Comet, Part 4: Avatar Aang".

During one of the scams Sokka wears the same beard he wore in "The Headband".

Apparently, if an objects comes into direct contact with Sparky Sparky Boom Man's (the Combustion Man) "third eye", he is unable to accurately firebend with it, and if he tries, it may literally backfire.

The monkey statue at the gang's camp looks very similar to the monkey statue Iroh bought in "The Waterbending Scroll".

Episode Quotes
Katara: We’ve already got some third-eyed freak after us!
Sokka: Speaking of that third-eyed freak, I think I’ve come up with a name for him! What do you think of SPARKY SPARKY BOOM MAN?!

Sokka: Toph, when I was in town, I found something that you’re not gonna like.
(Sokka takes out a wanted poster and shows it to her)
Toph: Well, it sounds like a sheet of paper, but I guess you’re referring to what’s on the sheet of paper.
Sokka: It’s a wanted poster of you!

Katara: What is this?
Toph: I don’t know! I mean, seriously! What is with you people?! I’m blind!

(Katara receives a letter claiming to have been written by Toph)
Katara: I know this is from you, Sokka! Toph can’t write!
Aang: I can’t believe we forgot Toph can’t write.
Sokka: We are idiots.

Sokka: (at the top of his lungs) Sneak attack!
Aang: Sokka, sneak attacks don't work if you yell it out loud.

Katara: Sokka, please don't tell me you bought a bird.
Sokka: Not just any bird, a messenger hawk. Now we can send messages anywhere in the world, even to Gran Gran.
Aang: Sounds neat! How does it work?
Sokka: You know, I never thought about it.

Sokka: This guy is too good! He shoots fire from his brain!

Toph: What are you doing?
Katara: I'm making my own water.
Toph: Katara, you're a genius! A sweaty, stinky genius!

Aang: It's Sparky Sparky Boom Man!
Sokka: You know, I'm starting to think that name doesn't quite fit!

Sokka: Hey, I've got it, the perfect name for that guy. "Combustion Man"!
Toph: Good job, Sokka. Now let's get out of here before Combustion Man catches us!
Sokka: See? It fits so well!

Episode Goofs
When Katara is arguing with Toph about the wanted poster she is barefoot from a side view, but from an aerial view and when she is seen walking away she is wearing shoes.

When Aang, Sokka, and Toph come back to camp with food supplies one of the baskets has Water Tribe symbols around it. It seems unlikely that they would carry Water Tribe baskets while trying to keep their secret Fire Nation identities.

After Toph says she will do the scam for 40 peices, the dealer drops about 5 more peices into the bag of money. However, the bag was only holding 20 peices before, so he should have dropped about 15 more into the bag than he did.

When Sparky Sparky Boom Man (the Combustion Man) comes into the jail to capture Katara, his metal arm is golden colored. But later when he attacks the group outside it is back to it's silver color.

When Aang is running away from Sparky Sparky Boom Man (the Combustion Man) with Sokka he is running away from the back of the Firelord Ozai statue. Then in the next scene he hits the front of the statue, which would have been impossible if he was just running away from the back of it.

When Sokka and Toph are sitting on the edge of the cliff; from an aerial view we can see the cliff is very thick downwards and their legs and feet do not pass it's edges. However, while in the water underneath them, Katara can see their feet and even some of their legs hanging down, which she shouldn't have been able to see.

The monkey statue and scroll next to Aang switch positions between scenes while Katara and Toph are arguing.

Cultural References

Several real world games are seen in this episode. Including the classic "cup and ball" game, and a "test your strength" carnival type game.

Fire Nation dice are also seen, however they are not present day dice. They appear to be rolling-pin style dice (also known as rolling log dice), an ancient form of present day dice.
