Pittsburgh, 1990s. The local TV news was dominated by one team: Chuck Darling (Kelsey Grammer
) and Kelly Carr (Patricia Heaton
). On-screen they had the chemistry it took to be the best of the best. But off-screen, Chuck was an egomaniac and notorious womanizer, while Kelly was an uptight know-it-all. When Chuck was called up to do bigger and better things, he and Kelly departed without one tear shed.
After an embarrassing tirade ends up broadcast all over the Internet, Chuck finds himself out of his high-powered newscast job and on a downward spiral, leading him to wonder if his womanizing ways are as exciting as they once used to be. Upon his return to Pittsburgh, he and Kelly reunite to try to take back their former TV newscast glory. There, Chuck has to readjust to some new faces, including Montana Diaz Herrera (Ayda Field
), the sexy yet inept weather woman; and Ryan Church (Josh Gad
), the overworked and overstressed director. Chuck is reunited with old co-workers, including Marsh McGinley (Fred Willard
), the sports anchor; and Gary Crezyzewski (Ty Burrell
), the field reporter. Chuck also finds out that he has a daughter through his one night stand with Kelly named Gracie (Laura Marano (Episodes 1-9)
, Lily Jackson (Episodes 10-14)
