In the Old West, the Royal Flush Gang captures bounty hunter Jonah Hex at a railroad station. At the stroke of midnight, they plan for the station whistle to send four horses running, drawing and quartering Hex. However, Batman is on the scene and frees Hex and the two heroes quickly take down the gang.
The monk Wong Fei tends to the Wudang Temple in China when Shadow Clan ninja launch an attack on the temple. Wong Fei deflects a swarm of arrows and defeats the first wave of ninja. The Shadow Clan’s leader, the Fox, arrives with his two minions Shark and Vulture to take the Wudang Totem. Wong Fei laughs at their efforts and easily defeats Vulture and Shark. However, Fox brings him down with a poisoned dart. However, the sun rises and the Shadow Clan ninja disappear due to its raises. Before departing, Fox warns that they will return that night and there’s nothing Wong Fei can do.
Batman has just captured the villainous Top when he hears Wong Fei contact him mentally. Batman finds himself floating on the astral plane and Wong Fei tells him that his former classmates are seeking the Wudang Totem. He asks Batman to get to the temple before sunset. Batman agrees and says he will bring another former student, Bronze Tiger. Wong Fei warns that Bronze Tiger is too prideful to come, then gives the Caped Crusader a drawing of a mutated man-animal hybrid. The old monk says his journey is at an end and fades away as Batman returns to his own body.
As he travels to China, Batman remembers how he met Wong Fei. In his youth, he traveled to the temple to take back everything that he had lost. After donning the helm of a bat, Wong Fei had his students Bronze Tiger, Fox, Vulture, and Shark attack Bruce. They easily defeated Bruce but Fox continued to beat him until Bronze Tiger stopped him. Wong Fei informed Bronze Tiger to let Bruce fight his own battles and an angry Bronze Tiger informed Bruce he would get no further help.
Batman travels to the village where Bronze Tiger protects his people and fights in a tiger cage taking on all challengers. Batman tells Bronze Tiger that their master’s temple is at risk, but Bronze Tiger insists that it’s not his fight. Batman challenges him to battle: if Bronze Tiger loses then he helps. Batman is outmatched but cheats and holds Bronze Tiger to his promise. They go to the Wudang Temple and Batman warns that if Fox obtains the Wudang Totem, then he will be unstoppable.
As they enter the temple, Batman remembers the day that Wong Fei had his students challenge him. He easily defeated them then demanded that Bronze Tiger show respect and bow to his master. Bronze Tiger refused and left.
In the present, the sun goes down as Batman and Bronze Tiger find the Wudang Totem. The Terrible Trio come in behind them and send their ninja to attack. Bronze Tiger refuses to guard the totem and goes after Fox, but the ninja bring him down and overwhelm Batman. The Trio take the totem and it glows with mystical energy, transforming them into man-animal hybrids of their totem spirit. The heroes are easily overwhelmed and Vulture drops Batman into the valley below. Fox defeats Bronze Tiger and tells him that he is leaving the martial artist to live with his failure.
Once the Trio depart, Batman flies up from the valley in the Batplane, which he’s summoned via remote control. The Shadow Clan ninja are in Hong Kong and terrorizing the population. The Trio are on the docks and use the totem to summon a fleet of junks containing mystical warriors. Batman and Bronze Tiger arrive but Vulture rips the wing off the Batplane, forcing the heroes to bail out. They land on the dock but are surrounded. Fox demands their surrender and Bronze Tiger agrees as long as they will spare his village. Fox agrees but demands that Bronze Tiger kneel to him. The martial artist agrees... and then knocks the animal totem away. He and Batman grab it and transform into their totemic spirits of the Tiger and the Bat.
Using their enhanced abilities, Batman defeats Vulture and eliminates the approaching fleet. Bronze Tiger cripples Fox and then knocks him out with one blow. He admits that it’s tempting to keep his Tiger form, but Batman admits that between the blindness and the hideous appearance, he’d rather be back in costume.
Back at the Wudang Temple, Batman thanks Bronze Tiger for his help. Bronze Tiger decides to move his village to the temple and start a new school to train martial artist and carry on Wong Fei’s legacy. However, before Batman goes, Bronze Tiger asks for a rematch and the two men, their differences resolved, engage in a sparring match.
