Batman Beyond

Season 1

Season 1
Batman Beyond began with a season that did not feature many continuity arcs. The first season's sole purpose was to tell the story of the new Batman's first year of crime fighting in the future. Along the way, we meet many other characters such as the new Commissioner of Police, Barbara Gordon. Barbara has, since her days as Batgirl, become a bit bitter. Barbara isn't at all supportive of Terry, though this changes when the two team up to fight an assassin hired to eliminate her husband. We also see the aging Bruce Wayne, himself somewhat bitter. Bruce at first does not want Terry to become Batman, though this changes when Bruce and Terry discover a bond of tragedy. We are also introduced to a small love triangle between Dana Tan, Terry, and Ten of the Royal Flush Gang. After a fight between Terry and Dana, Terry finds himself dating a girl with problems very much like his. The two loved each other very much until Terry discovered her alter-ego and her family went to prison. Since then, Terry and Dana have begun dating again. Viewers learn the origins of the main villains of the show (Derek Powers, the Royal Flush Gang, Spellbinder, and some others). Derek Powers, a major recurring villain, apparently dies at the end of the season. Most villains are new, but one episode features the return of Mr. Freeze and several feature The Jokerz, a gang clearly inspired by the clown prince of crime.
