Ben 10

Ben 10

It all starts when Ben discovers a strange device, the Omnitrix, that locks itself on his wrist. With “the watch,” Ben has the ability to morph into bizarre aliens like Heatblast, Upgrade, Grey Matter, Stinkfly, Ghostfreak, Ripjaws, Wildmutt and Diamondhead, each with its own set of special abilities, while still maintaining his 10-year-old personality. With these powers, he can play the part of a superhero, righting wrongs, saving the world and getting into some old-fashioned kid-style trouble. Ben and the Omnitrix catch the attention of an intergalactic bad guy named Vilgax who will stop at nothing to get the kind of power that Ben has managed to acquire.

When he’s not tangling with Vilgax’s cronies or other earthbound villains, Ben is traveling the country in his Grandpa Max’s RV. Grandpa Max is a good-humored, open-minded and unsuspecting mentor who wants to put a little more excitement into his grandson’s life by taking him on a cross-country summer vacation. Ben and Grandpa are joined on their road trip by Ben’s cousin Gwen, who is smart, level-headed and not exactly thrilled to be along for the ride. Still, as the voice of reason, she’s invaluable in times of chaos, which is pretty much all the time.

Ben’s main challenges are finding the best way to harness his power and making good decisions about when to summon his inner superheroes. It’s a good thing that his worldly and wise grandfather and shrewd cousin Gwen are there to keep him in check – and bail him out of trouble when he needs it.

I have never heard any bad reviews about this series and I believe that this shows lives up to it's hype. I love the fact that it departs from the common cliche in television shows where the kid gets super powers and keeps it a secret and often gets grounded for it. I like the fact that his Grandpa knows and helps Ben while fighting. I also like the vast variations in alien heroes that Ben is able to use to fight villains with. Add a sometimes helpful, sometimes snobby sister and you have one of the best shows on Cartoon Network. Read more

Recaps
1x12: Side Effects recap: The episode starts at an old, abandoned apartment building. A man named Bob is knocking the structure down with the wrecking ball, and expresses his feelings for his work. While Bob works, a bluish-skinned looking man in ragged clothes named Clancy steps out of one of the holes made by the ball. Insects swarm all over his body, and it seems that he doesn’t mind. He talks, and says that the bugs are a part of him. Joe, Bob’s boss, notices what Clancy said, and ordered Bob to stop his work. Clancy tells the workers to leave immediately. Bob replies with a chuckle to his statement, and tells Clancy that the building must be torn down by the order of Councilwoman Liang. Joe agrees with Bob, and tells Clancy that the place must come down, whether he rejects it or not. Clancy is infuriated and releases a swarm of wasps from his sleeves. The bugs chase down Bob and they lift him up to Clancy. Bob tells him to put him down, but Clancy replies with a threat if they continue what they are doing... read more.

1x11: A Small Problem recap: The episode starts at a water park, where Ben and Gwen recite an advertisement for a rather large water slide attraction, clearly excited about it. They head for the entrance, though Gwen was the only one able to get in line, because Ben is stopped by the attendant due to height regulations. Gwen then makes fun of him for being short and heads for the ride. Upset, Ben decides to transform into Ripjaws, to show the attendant just how big he can be. He hides behind a nearby pillar, and activates the Omnitrix. The face of it pops up, but he was not able to push it back down, despite after several forceful pushes by Ben. He eventually got it activated when he smashed the face against the pillar. The impact however caused a malfunction, and turns into Grey Matter instead. Instead of being noticed by others, it becomes a problem when a large crowd of kids comes running towards the attraction. Fortunately, Ben was able to dodge the stampede... read more.

1x10: Lucky Girl recap: The episode starts in a witchcraft museum. Ben is looking through a tribal mask while Gwen and Grandpa Max are with an old, female tour guide. The guide is describing a book in a display case called the Archamada Book of Spells, said to contain ancient spells and rituals dating back to the 16th century. As the guide explains this, Gwen echoes her word for word. The guide says that maybe Gwen should work at the museum. After she walks off, Ben makes Gwen feel better by saying that she is probably older than the book itself and makes a face to illustrate that fact. Gwen laughs at this. All of a sudden, everyone is suddenly lifted off the ground and pinned to the ceiling. Grandpa Max makes the obvious observation that this isn't part of the tour. From a window, a stream of red smoke passes through and materializes into a man wearing a red and black robe. He carries a staff with a bird's head and a necklace with several charms on it. As he breaks the bookcase with a spell and calls the book to him, he says that all of its power will soon be his. With Hex focused on the book, Ben prepares to activate the Omnitrix. Before he can do so, however, the man cancels whatever force was pinning them to the ceiling, causing them to plummet uncontrollably. Luckily, Ben is able to transform into XLR8 and get ahead of them. He ties off a large hanging banner to act as the slide, catching everyone before they end up on the ground. He orders them all to go outside. Grandpa Max warns him to be careful, since he doesn't know what the magician could be capable of... read more.

1x8: The Alliance recap: The episode starts out on Vilgax's ship. There, the robotic lieutenant has just launched two drones to track down the Omnitrix. These drones are improved versions of the old ones, and the lieutenant is confident that they'll find the Omnitrix. Vilgax is not so confident, since all his previous attempts have failed. He is under the impression that whoever possesses the Omnitrix is as dangerous as they are brilliant... read more.

1x6: Tourist Trap recap: The episode begins with Ben making faces at a kid in another car. The two trade silly faces back and forth, ranging from goofy, stretched-out smiles to random tongue-flapping. Gwen makes fun of Ben's various faces, saying they'd be an improvement if he got stuck like that. The kid in the other car then steps up to his game by eating part of a hamburger and then showing it to Ben, which Ben refers to as the "seafood special." As a response, Ben ducks under the table and activates the Omnitrix. He then pops back up as Stinkfly and smears slime all over the window. The kid is understandably frightened by this, as well as his father, who also notices. They speed away as fast as possible. Stinkfly is unbelievably amused at his own joke, rolling around on the floor laughing while Gwen chides him on taking the joke too far. As she sits down, he sprays some slime on her seat. He says that going to far is impossible, because funny is funny. Up front, Grandpa Max notices something and tells Ben to come up, hitting the brakes as he does. This causes Stinkfly to slide to the front. On the road ahead, a propane truck has overturned. The driver is stuck inside and a fire is spreading. Grandpa Max points out that if the truck ignites it'll become a "rocket to the moon," as he puts it... read more.
