Big Brother (US)

Big Brother (US)

"Big Brother" is a long-running reality show on CBS where a group of contestants known as houseguests enter a house in Los Angeles, without being able to leave, or have contact with the outside world, and be monitored by cameras 24/7 while they compete in challenges, form alliances, and vote each other out of the house in the hopes of winning the $500,000 grand prize. They are not allowed to leave the house or its' backyard for any reason, they cannot see or read magazines or newspapers, no radios, no computers, no phones, no I pods or MP3 players and only the HOH is given a small portable CD player to listen to CD's left in the HOH room for them.

HOH stands for the Head of Household and once every week the guests in the house compete to try and win HOH and all the perks that go along with being the HOH for the week. The HOH gets’ their own private bedroom with a private bathroom, a huge bed, a small refrigerator and stuff sent to them by family and friends like, letters, pictures, CD's and food. Also every week the current HOH must select 2 houseguests to be put up on the block to be voted on to be evicted from the house that week.

Once a week 6 of the houseguests to include the HOH and the 2 nominees get to compete for the coveted Veto Award. The person who wins the Veto can elect to remove one of the nominees from the chopping block to include themselves if they are on the block. If one of the nominees is removed from the block then the HOH must immediately replace that nominee with a new houseguest.

Every week the houseguests one by one go into the secluded and soundproof diary room to make their selection on who they would like to see leave the house that week. The 2 houseguests on the block and the HOH cannot vote but in case of a tie the HOH would then vote to break the tie live. Once the votes are all in then the Host of the show Julie Chen announces to the houseguests the final results and the evicted houseguest has one minute to say goodbye and leave the house. The show begins with anywhere between 15 and 20 houseguests each season.

Once there is only 9 houseguests remaining in the house then the voted out houseguests from that point on after leaving the house are sequestered to a 2nd house called the Jury House. When the original house only has 2 guests remaining in the house then the 7 sequestered contestants are asked to vote for the person they wish to win the $500,000.00 grand prize.

Big Brother airs 3 times a week on Sunday at 8PM ET/PT, Tuesday at 9PM ET/PT and Thursday at 8pm ET/PT. The Thursday night show is almost always a live show and is presented by the Host of the series, the beautiful Julie Chen.

Big Brother = My Summer Guilty PleasureRating: 3 likes, 1 dislikes

Big Brother is the one summer show I watch year in and year out. I normally don't like reality shows -- hate is more like it -- but Big Brother had me hooked from the beginning. I don't know what it is about watching the hottest strangers CBS could find to live together in a house completely isolated from the world, but once the season ramps up, it's quality entertainment. 16x35: Episode #35 – Live Eviction #13 - Day #78 recap: Tonight the 13th “Live Eviction Ceremony” began however it was never completed. As all 5 houseguests are seated in the living room Julie tells Derrick that he is first up to vote. He gets up and walks towards the diary room and just as he is about to grasp the handle on the door a very loud siren goes off and the house is filled with bright Red Lights. Derrick turns around and returns to his seat on the couch knowing something Big is up but not knowing what yet. Julie chimes in and tells them that because they pushed the big button in the Have not room which is called the “Big Brother Rewind Button” that they are now all going back in time. Up on the Big screen TV we see the week in very fast rewind mode and Julie tells them that a whole week of Big Brother competitions will now be done all over again from scratch. She then tells Cody & Victoria that they are now no longer on the Block and Frankie is no longer the HoH as it reverts back to the last houseguest who was HoH which was Derrick. Up next is the replay or rewind of the 13th HoH competition that Frankie had originally won. Derrick once again as HoH cannot participate and the other 4 houseguests are shown standing in front of their large “Seed Saw” type shovels. Julie repeats the object of the game once again that being the person who gets all their seeds on the end of their shovel and pushes their button in the fastest time will win. She also reiterates that if anyone falls off or drops any of their seeds they must restart all over again with no seeds on their shovel. We see the competition begin and after a few minutes the rain begins to pour on the 4 of them. Time runs out on tonight’s episode so we do not get to see the end of this competition. Julie tells us we will see it play out on Sunday night’s episode and that the jury members will return back into the house to surprise and mess with the 5 remaining houseguests... read more.

16x34: Episode #34 – Power of Veto Competition #13 - Day #77 recap: Tonight we saw the 13th “POV Competition” and "Team America" was given a new mission for the week. Derrick and Frankie were required to convince the other 3 houseguests that there was a mouse or rat in the house and they all had to stay up all-night long trying to find it. They are in the kitchen and Frankie screams then Derrick screams and the other 3 houseguests come running and they tell them that they just saw a giant rat. They are both so convincing that Caleb starts pulling things out of the corner of the Kitchen. We hear screams from both Cody & Victoria and then Cody climbs up on top of one of the stools frightened out of his mind he might get bit and get rabies. Caleb declares that he is going to find that Dirty Rat and kill it and says "We must nawt allow this incursion into our domo-cile! I declare: The foot is agame!". This hunt for the Rodent or "Rat Patrol" (pun intended if you remember the old TV series from the late 1960's?) becomes one of the funniest parts of the season. They accomplished their mission as all 5 of them stayed up all night searching. Tonight we also see both Caleb and Cody in the Have Not room pretending to Judo Chop the “BB Rewind Button” hoping that would stop the countdown another hilarious part of this strange episode. Up next is the “POV Competition” in the back yard with 1 houseguest playing at a time while the others wait inside the house. It is a "Circus Clown Freak Show" theme competition with faces of 3 houseguests on one face of a clown and they must identify the 3 faces on each clown. By the end of the competition they are all out in the backyard and the times for each houseguest is shown one at a time. Victoria took the most time in this competition and the shortest time and winner was Frankie once again. During the “POV Ceremony” Frankie decided not to use the Veto on either of the 2 houseguests up on the Block who were Cody & Victoria. On today’s episode Frankie spent a lot of time in his HoH room talking to himself. At one point he says “That’s 9 comp wins for me, the person closest to me has 5 (He apparently means Caleb?), Cody & Derrick have 3 and Victoria has one, who is Victoria” he also says?.. read more.

16x33: Episode #33 – HoH Comp #13, Nominations #13 & 2 Surprise Guests enter the House - Day #75 recap: On tonight’s episode it picked up right where it ended last Thursday night with Christine walking out the front door. We see all 5 of the remaining houseguests looking through the glass at the “Big Brother Rewind Button” which is the newest twist in the game this summer. They have no clue why it is there and they all speculate if it could be a good thing or a bad thing if someone pushes it? After several minutes of making possible guesses on what pushing the button might do or cause Caleb says he believes he knows where it is at in the house. They all follow Caleb and he leads them into the “Have Not Room” where it is sitting in the middle of the room with a glass cover over it that is locked. On one end of the room is a wide screen TV with a message on it saying “The Choice is Yours”. More speculating went on for a few minutes’ amongst the 5 of them and Caleb is the only houseguest that thinks pushing the button would be a good thing. He thinks it could be that whoever pushes the button will win money or a trip or a new wardrobe of clothes. Next we saw the 13th “HoH Competition” contested between Caleb, Cody, Frankie & Victoria. Derrick could not compete in this competition because he was the current HoH. This competition was about Balance and if you had any you could possibly win? There were giant shovels that were made into sea saws or teeter tatters and there were a pile of large orange balls they called seeds. The object of this game was to get your entire pile of seeds onto the shovel head end of the see saw and be the first to push the button. If any seeds fell off during the competition the houseguests were required to gather up all of their seeds and start all over from the beginning. Also if any houseguest fell off of their see saw they to had to gather up all of their seeds and start all over from the beginning. Cody and Victoria could not get the hang of trying to balance their see saw and fell off numerous times. It was Caleb and Frankie neck and neck to the very last ball. Caleb placed his last ball first so Frankie watched and hoped he would either fall off or drop one or more of his balls. Just as Caleb stepped off his end of the shovel it happened all of his balls bounced off. Frankie placed his last ball very slowly and carefully and ended up winning the competition and becoming the 13th HoH of the summer. Frankie had private discussions with every houseguest to get their suggestions of whom they thought should be put up on the Block. After the "HoH Competition" is over they all rush back into the house and into the “Have Not Room" where they see that the glass box is no longer covering the button any longer. More speculating as to whether it will be a bad thing or a good thing if someone pushes the button. They then all agree that they want to push the button and all 5 houseguests push the button at the same time. Up next they hear the doorbell ring and in walks Jeff and Jordan who were houseguests on Big Brother in 2 previous seasons. Jordan then asks them if they are up for a Luxury competition, they all say yes and she says well go get your clothes on and meet us in the back yard.
Jeff and Jordan walk out back and the yard is decorated like something out of a fairy tale or a Wedding reception. Jeff turns to Jordan and tells her we’re not here for a competition and she says, “We’re Not?” Jeff says no then he gets down on his knees opens a box with a ring in it and proposes to Jordan and she says yes. Next we see running towards her was her pet dog and she is so happy and asks how did he get here. Jeff tells her he is not the only one here you know and out walks his family and her family. The houseguests that were still inside the house during this proposal ceremony come out of the house and they are carrying a large cake. Jeff then tells everyone there is one more surprise I have for you all and that is country music singer Brett Eldredge who walks in the back yard. He sings a song and dedicates it to Jeff & Jordan stating this was his newest single just released. After all the visitors leave the back yard it’s back into the house for the current 5 houseguests. Frankie apparently had already made his mind up about putting Victoria on the Block. He studied the photos on the wall trying to decide what “BOMB Squad” member he was going to put up. During the “Nomination Ceremony” Frankie revealed the two houseguest he was putting up on the Block were Cody & Victoria. All of the competitions held today are now meaningless but the houseguests do not know that yet. Because they pushed the “Big Brother Rewind Button”... read more.

16x32: Episode #32 - Double Live Eviction #11 & #12, HoH Comp #12 & POV Comp #12 - Day #72 recap: Tonight’s episode was 1 full week of Big Brother competitions in one night with a Double Live Eviction. A lot of things went down tonight in the House and Julie revealed to us a new secret twist in the game. First up tonight is Caleb telling Frankie in the HoH room that he thought seriously about backdooring him to put him up on the Block but decided it wasn’t a good idea. He tells Frankie that he trusts him and that is why he didn’t put him up on the Block. Frankie and Derrick are in the kitchen and Frankie tells him he knows everything. Derrick tells Frankie that Caleb was the one who brought up the subject of sending him home but it wasn’t anything serious. Frankie is definitely not buying into that explanation from Derrick. Derrick tells Cody in private that Frankie knows everything and Cody becomes very annoyed with that news. The eviction ceremony is up next and Nicole and Victoria are up on the Chopping Block still. As expected by everyone Nicole is unanimously voted out of the house by a vote of 5 to 0. As she is walking out the door of the house Christine yells “Enjoy Hayden”! Nicole tells Julie while sitting in the studio that she believes that Cody & Frankie will be the first two to turn against the rest of the house. Julie asks her about her relationship with Hayden and Nicole tells her that they both like each other and she hopes everything will work out between them? Next we see the 12th “HoH Competition” of the season live where the houseguests must watch video’s of evicted houseguests. They will say something with one word BLEEPED out and Julie would tell them a word that the houseguest could have said and they have to decide if they said it or not with a TRUE or FALSE response. Donny is shown first talking about his girlfriend and Julie asks them if the word that was BLEEPED out was “Massages” and all of the Houseguests except Derrick says it is True. The answer was False and Derrick became the newest and 12th HoH of the summer. Derrick next speaks to every houseguest one at a time in a bedroom behind closed doors to hear his or her recommendations on whom they think he should be put up on the Block. He immediately has to pick two houseguests to put up on the Block and chooses Christine and Victoria. Derrick tells them that it is nothing personal but they were selected by the majority of the house to go up. The 12th “Veto Competition” of the summer is on tap next and since there are only 6 houseguests remaining in the game they all compete. The object of this game is very simple in that they must navigate a ball through 3 mazes and the one that finishes first wins the Veto. Frankie wins this game and he decided not to use it on either of the 2 girls on the Block. Christine is evicted with a unanimous vote of 4 to 0. This makes Victoria the sole female remaining in the game amongst 4 guys all members of the “BOMB SQUAD”. Those guys are Caleb, Cody, Derrick and Frankie and they all celebrate together being in the final 5. Christine tells Julie that she knew the boys would turn against her sooner or later and she wishes she had stayed in the alliance with Hayden & Nicole instead of joining the "BOMB SQUAD". The show is coming to a close and Julie finally explains to us the newest twist in this year’s game. There is a big red button on top of a stand under a glass cover and if it gets pushed by Sunday night it will activate the “Big Brother Rewind Button” twist. This will STOP next week’s live eviction vote the two houseguests up on the Block will come off the Block and an entire week’s worth of competitions with have to be redone all over again. This could change the current HoH and what two houseguests end up on the Block this time. Julie tells us that former contestants Jeff and his wife Jordan will be entering the house on Sunday with a surprise for the houseguests. Also the 13th "HoH Competition" will be contested on Sunday as well... read more.

16x31: Episode #31 - Power of Veto Competition #11 - Day #71 recap: Nicole goes into the food storage room where Derrick was and asked him for a hug and began to cry because she was up on the Block again and a have not for the 2nd week in a row. Cody and Caleb have a conversation in the HoH and both agree that if one of the 2 girls on the Block wins the POV that he will replace them with Victoria. Derrick told us from the Diary room that he really wanted Christine to go out because he believes she would put him up on the Block and that he liked Nicole. Caleb plants the seed that Christine is dangerous and would probably put both Caleb and Cody on the Block if she wins it next week and the other 2 agree with him. Christine walks into the HoH room and Caleb and the other 2 guys are still there and they say that if any of them win the Veto they will take her off the block and replace her with Victoria. Derrick tells us that they are just telling Christine what she wants to hear but they can’t let her win the Veto so they can send her home instead of Nicole. Up next it’s time for the 11th “Power of Veto Competition” contested with the HoH Caleb, his 2 nominees on the Block Christine & Nicole and 3 other houseguests chosen at random which were Cody, Derrick & Victoria. Caleb drew out the disc with houseguest choice on it and selected Cody, Nicole then drew Derrick and Christine drew Victoria’s name out. Frankie is the only remaining houseguest who was not playing in the competition so he got up and reached in the box and pulled out his name to be sure it was even in there. The competition was named “BB Blast” and it was a backyard that looked like it was out of a cartoon like Roger Rabbit or the Road Runner. Big Boxes made to look like dynamite with different colored wires draped over them. The object was to watch a TV screen and colors would flash on the screen at the end the directions would say something like “Cut the wire that was in between the Green Wire and Yellow Wire”. Each round they would have to remember what they saw on the screen and then cut the correct colored wire. The last one still standing at the very end would then win the “Power of Veto”. If you cut the incorrect wire the box in front of them would explode in their face and cover them with different colors of paint. Frankie was giving the directions and he stated that the 1st houseguest eliminated would have to wear a Dinosaur costume for a week. Cody was the very 1st one eliminated and will have to wear the Dinosaur costume. By the very end Caleb and Nicole were both eliminated at the same time and Christine won the “Power of Veto”. Nicole and Derrick were trying to fall asleep in separate beds in one of the rooms and Nicole tells Derrick he has been playing a great game this season and was the best and she compared him to Dan from 2 previous seasons. Derrick was next seen in the Diary room once again saying he wanted Nicole to stay but after what she said he was afraid she would say that to some of the others so he now wants her to go to save his game. Christine used the Veto on herself and she was replaced on the Block with Victoria. Tomorrow night will be the eviction vote to see who is eliminated next... read more.
