In the new season of Big Brother, the contestants enter the house to the "Summer of Secrets". Every player enters with a secret partner - someone who they know from outside of the Big Brother house. Each partner at the beginning, think they are the only one. At the first competition on the new Big Brother premises, half of the house earns food for the week while the other half is left with PB&J, and one houseguest, Rachel, becomes the Head of Household.

In a special episode, Julie Chen announced the top 20 candidates in the running for public votes for the opportunity to re-enter the Big Brother house for the All-Stars seventh season to compete for $500,000.

The 1st 8 houseguests for season 13 were recently revealed to the public. The additional 6 houseguests that are a secret for now will be revealed on this season's premiere episode tonight. The 6 houseguests from previous seasons are called “Dynamic Duos” hence the sub-titled season 13 logo. Each two houseguests are either related to each other in some way or they are in a relationship of some kind together stronger than a “showmance”. Jason Thomas, a 26-year-old boxing promoter, was dropped from the list of houseguests due to "a casting decision" dropping the amount of new houseguests this season down to eight.
