Cultural References

Alice: ...[Danny] took its delightful theme song and made it his theme song.
(later)
Skobo: It's time to say goodbye to that whole What's Happening!! thing, all right? It's time to say goodbye to Rerun and Dee and the whole little gang down at the diner.

What's Happening!! was a show that aired on ABC from 1976 to 1979. Rerun and Dee were characters on the show, and the group of main characters liked to hang out at a local diner named Rob's Place. The theme song referred to was composed by Henry Mancini.

Visual: Alice holds a boombox playing the What's Happening!! theme song over her head.

This is a reference to a famous scene in Say Anything, a 1989 movie, where the main character Lloyd (John Cusack) holds a boombox playing Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" over his head outside his love interest Diane (Ione Skye)'s house.
