History: Renji grew up with Rukia as a kid. He grew up in one of the worst areas in Rukongai, district 78. He grew up there, with Rukia and his other friends.
When he and Rukia went into the Shinigami academy, he was moved to the top of the class in swordsmanship (zanjutsu), but no in demon's arts. Renji senpai (senior student) was Shūhei Hisagi. He made friends with Izuru Kira and Momo Hinamori.
His friendship with Rukia became distant when, he told her, he was happy for her going into the Kuchiki clan. He didn't want to bug her, because she got into noblitiy. They both sort of regreted it and miss each other's company.
Renji was admitted into the 5th division, under Captain Sōsuke Aizen. But due to his rebellious personality, he was moved into the 11th division under Kenpachi Zaraki, he got to the 6th seat in that division. He recently moved to 6th Division Vice Captain under Byakuya Kuchiki.
He was one the one who came to get Rukia after her crimes of staying outside the Soul Society too long and transfering her powers.
His goal is to get Rukia free of Kuchiki's. His goal is to surpass his captain, and he battles him and loses.He battles Ichigo as an enemy, but finds out Ichigo has the same goals, they become friends. He gets ban-kai and battles his captain and loses.
He finally gets to say what he thinks of Rukia after he helps saving her from her exexcution.
