Rukia Kuchiki [2nd Main Character], voiced by Fumiko Orikasa
Character Background
Rukia is the main female lead of Bleach. She is a shinigami in the 13th division. She is currently unseated, but is strong enough to be a seated officer. Her strength is at least as good as a 5th seat, if not higher. Some of Rukia's likes are bunny themed things, high place and cucumbers. She is also able to act her way of getting her way.
Her role in the series, started off as a mentor to Ichigo, training him to use the powers she gave to him. Now she is more of the one's who wants to protect her friends. Because of the Soul Society is set sort of inbetween Edo and current times, Rukia doesn't know much about the real world and how it works. Because of that, she seems to struggle on basic stuff a 15 year old would know.
Rukia has one brother, Byakuya Kuchiki, captain of the 6th division. Even though he isn't a biological brother, Byakuya treats her as one the best way he can later on in the series. Rukia did have one sister, who was married to Byakuya. Hisana, who looked like her, made Byakuya promise to watch over Rukia because she left her as a baby, so she could live.
History
Rukia's history is probably one of the most covered things in Bleach. When she was a child living in 78th District of Rukongai. Which is one of the worst districts there is. She was forced to be on her own, until she met her childhood friend, Renji Abarai . They stayed together for some years with there friends, and started to get spiritual power. About a year later, Rukia's friends started to die, so her and Renji left Rukongai and went to the Shinigami Academy.
She wasn't there for too much longer, because Byakuya found her and asked her to join the Kuchiki clan. Rukia at first didn't want to accept, because her close friend Renji wasn't invited and she wanted to be with him, because he was like family. Rukia joined the family and was promoted to the 13th division under Ukitake's control. Around this time, Byakuya pulled some strings too always protect Rukia, so he made sure she would not get a seat in that division, thus keeping her away from dangerous missions.
However, since most of the 13th division members gave her heck, because she got in very easy. They did a lot of back talking. But the current Vice Captain Kaien Shiba trained her, and she greatly looked to him. She also looked up to his wife Miyako Shiba. Who she saw as strong women, and wanted to be like her. It didn't last too long, because one night a hollow attacked Miyako, and almost killed her. Basically it over took her body, and the following night, made her kill a lot of the 13th division member's, as the hollow control Miyako was about to attack Rukia, Kaien jumped in and saved her.
They later find the hollow that ate Miyako from the inside and Kaien fought it, but fell to the same fate as his wife. And started to attack Rukia, Ukitake tried to tell her to run, but because of her feeling about Kaien, came back. And the hollow now controlling Kaien, went to attack her, because Ukitake illness stopped him from moving. Kaien got enough control to force himself on Rukia's Zanpakuto, delivering the fatal blow. Rukia was very depressed about killing Kaien, but Kaien in his last breathes as himself, thanked Rukia and his captain for letting his heart rest peaceful. Rukia felt really bad about this and never had the courage to apologize to Shiba family. Which one of the members was watching.
Character In the Story Line
Rukia is first character to appear on Bleach, and the first one to speak. She is seen patrolling Karakura Town, hunting for hollows. She later on appears in Ichigo's room, surprising Ichigo, because he can see her. Rukia is also surprised he can see her. But before Rukia finishes explain her job, another hollow comes in and attacks Ichigo's family. Rukia is about to slay the hollow, but Ichigo gets in the way, and Rukia has to take on a injury to save Ichigo. Thus not being able to move much herself, gives Ichigo most of her power, because Ichigo took most of it. Ichigo is then a shinigami and she is basically powerless. Thus forcing her into a gigai, given to her by Urahara. Rukia tries and gets Ichigo to do her job for her, well she is getting her powers back. She makes a lot of friends, but after a battle with a Menos, Rukia starts to worry and runs away to protect Ichigo from what is about to happen.
Renji and Byakuya come to take her back to the Soul Society by force if they have to, because she broke two laws, transferring powers to someone and staying in the living world too long. They take her back to the Soul Society and not too much, she is sentenced to death. In the time she was in the 6th division jail, she befriends, Hanataro Yamada. And also moved to another jail cell. So also is glad that she is getting killed, because she thinks she ruined Ichigo's life and killed Kaien.
Meanwhile, one of the captain's at the time, Aizen Sosuke, thinks there is a plot going to kill Rukia for some evil reason. She get rescued later on, by Ganju Shiba and Hanataro, but Byakuya stops them. Ichigo and Yoruichi Shihouin save her, but retreat, but Rukia is taking back to the jail cell, and her execution is moved up for the second time. As she is being transported to Sokyoku, she ask that Ichigo and crew are allowed to leave unharmed.
As the execution starts, and almost ends, she is saved by Ichigo again. Just in the nick of time. Ichigo literally through her into Renji's arm, from a very high height. Meanwhile, Rukia is finally talked to that she doesn't have to carry all the weight of her guilt on just her self by Renji. But Renji is stopped before he can get Rukia out, by Tosen Kaname. And is transported along with Renji back to Sokyoku grounds in front of Ichimaru Gin and Aizen Sosuke. And Rukia finds out she has on of the most powerful object, hogyoku inside of her, and why her gigai wasn't returning her powers to her. Both of this items where given to her, so Urahara could hide them and Rukia.
Once Aizen got hogyoku out of Rukia, he orders Gin to kill her, and Byakuya, badly beaten up from his battle from Ichigo, saves Rukia's life, by taking Gin's Shinso direct blow. After Aizen left, Rukia learns why Byakuya didn't want to save her and why she was adopted into the Kuchiki Family. Byakuya's tell her, that Hisana, her biological sister, married him. But every day that they where married, would go out looking for Rukia, but never found her. She got sick and died, but made Byakuya promise to find her, protect her, and never to tell her how bad of a sister she was. Byakuya did break his promise, in the last one. But he said he swore on his parents grave that he'd never break a rule. Rukia understood Byakuya, was in a bad spot, and understood her past a little more. Not too much afterwards, she goes apology to Shiba family for killing Kaien. And not too much longer after that stays in the Soul Society.
She didn't stay too long thought, and her powers was not fully back yet, when a new threat came around, the Bount. Rukia was asked to go there, because she knew the town and Ichigo very well. She did get in the fight with the Bount Mabashi and his doll over took her and made her basically a slave for him. She is saved by Orihime, but is still injured. Well the Bount invaded the Soul Society, her powers still haven't returned and the battle damage between Mabashi, she runs into the Bount Yoshi. Even thought she battle very hard, with the power she had, she was able to put up a fight with the help of Ririn. But in the end lost the battle, and basically was saved by Byakuya before the final blow. And pretty stayed healing the rest of the arc, and they sat back pondering on the Bount and there actions and was separated again.
Rukia reappears, after the new enemy, Arrancars start appearing in the real world, making Rukia and a team move out, to help defend the town. Rukia's fights D-Roy and her powers are fully restored and easily wins the battle, but is almost killed by Grimmjow Jeagerjaques,. Do to that, and Ichigo training for his new power, Rukia takes Orihime Inoue to train in the Soul Society. Where they train for a month.
Another attacked happened in the real world, forcing Rukia to leave. She saves Ichigo, from the deathblow that Grimmjow is about to deal. But gets in trouble herself, and Shinji Hirako. But the next morning Rukia along with everyone else finds out that Orihime has "betrayed" them and left for the Arrancars side. But she is unwilling to believe that.
After a little bit she appears in Hueco Mundo along with Renji to save Orihime. But they are slowed down to Las Noches, and go into the Forest of Menos. Rukia is saved, by a shinigami who has been down there for 100 years, named Ashido. They get to be close friends, but one there way out Ashido lets himself stay in the cave in so Rukia and group could escape. Rukia promised once they where done to go rescue him. As they got to Las Noches, Rukia and the rest break up in and go there own ways.
Skills
Rukia has shown that she knows shikai pretty good and it able to use it in battle very well. She is very talented in kido. Her knowledge in kido, allows her to heal, bind and use it for attacks. She seems to lack in swordsmanship. Her speed, well isn't as fast as some characters, but she is ability to use it to her advantage, this was said by Renji.
Also another strength of Rukia, is her quickness in thinking. She is able to come up with a plan and mostly think stuff through, even when her mind isn't in the best of shape. Because of that, she is fast on feet, when battling some one.
Her zanpakuto Sode no Shirayuki is considered to be the most beautiful zanpakuto currently in the Soul Society, being all white in its shikai stage. To make it go into shikai form, she says mai which is dance in English. Rukia's is one of the few people's whose zanpakuto abilities have gone in depths in. She has shown two abilities so far. Both of which are similar and both use ice.
Rukia's shikai's have are in the form of dances so far. Her first release is "some no mai, tsukishiro" which translates to "first dance, white moon." It basically freezes the entire ground, in a circle and freezes everything from the ground until it reaches the sky. He second shikai is "tsugi no mai, hakuren" which translates to "next dance, white ripple", which is very similar to her first dance, expect she puts four like floating like ice particles and then a massive wave of ice, pretty much freezes everything with in the a certain range, and it has a long range of attack. |

History:Being only fifteen years old, Uryū doesn't have the same rich history as some of the other characters, especially the long-living shinigami; however, several details about his past are revealed in the series.
As a child, Uryū mostly interacted and trained with his grandfather, Sōken Ishida. His father, Ryūken Ishida, was less than enthusiastic about being a Quincy, claiming that it wasn't a profitable occupation. They don't appear to be on very good terms as a result, given Uryū's casual use of his father's given name. Sōken understands Ryūken's reasoning, since being a Quincy is more about justice than material rewards and Ryūken has a family to support. Sōken told Uryū that he would someday understand his father's motives, but thus far this isn't the case.
At a fairly young age, Uryū's grandfather was killed by hollows right in front of him, while he wasn't able to do a thing to protect him.This is one of the reasons he hates the shinigami, who didn't come to rescue Sōken in time. It is later revealed that the current captain of the 12th Division, Mayuri Kurotsuchi, was behind the delay so that Sōken's soul could be collected for study.

Abilities: As a Quincy, Uryū's main weapon is a bow, but he is also able to use many Quincy techniques and items to augment his abilities, including some high-level techniques such as Ransōtengai, which are rare enough that even Mayuri Kurotsuchi, who had studied over 2000 Quincy, had never seen them in person.
Uryū's trademark finishing move involves shooting spiritual arrows at his opponents through their chain link and soul sleep, depriving them of their powers and allowing him to win a bloodless victory. Aside from his Quincy powers, Uryū is well-trained in both mind and body, having substantial athletic abilities and a genius intellect. He also possesses some knowledge of Spanish, as he understands the Spanish terms used by the arrancar.
