There wasn't really a classificiation in that list to fit this episode. Was a good way to start an exciting story line and the show. Also, sort of a start of a good friendship, which will show much later in the series
The way they set this episode was great. A black-robed shimigai (death god) called Kuchiki Rukia starts where her job to protect it that area. The action was enough to keep a good pace. They also focused the story on the main two characters of show, so you get to know them somewhat. Overall, best series opener in a long time.
The attack scenes between the hollows where cool. Rukia cuts in the head and sends it off to Soul Society. Then she meets the person who she'll be stuck with for the longest time.
