Rukia gets Ichigo a pill that allows Ichigo to leaves his human body without Rukia using her glove. Ichigo worries about the temporarily soul in his body, and his worries come true ask the temporarily soul causing trouble. Rukia and Ichigo now must track the temp soul down.

The Soul Society made the modified souls and it was called Spearhead. They where created for anti-hollow solders. The modified soul would be put into a soul-less body for battles. It was rejected because using dead bodies as soldiers had ethical implications. And so soul society decided that the project should be scrapped and all current modified souls destroyed.

Mod-Souls have different human super powers, like strong legs or super strength, like Rukia's pictures showed.
