The scene opens with Commissioner Frank Regan getting ready for the graduation of his son, Jamie Regan. The newly graduated recruits march down to their seats and Frank gets up to talk to them. Meanwhile, a little girl is going home from school. Suddenly she is abducted by strangers in a white van. Frank comes out after congratulating the recruits and greats his children. They are all in law enforcement now. Officer Romano comes up and congratulates Jamie and says hello to his girlfriend, Sidney. Danny tells that he has to get going because he has a missing kid to find. He gets in the vehicle with his partner, Demarcus King, and they drive to the crime scene. Once there, Danny asks for the details. They tell that an eyewitness says that there was a little girl, Teresa Campos, who was kidnapped and a doll was left behind. Danny and King meet with the parents of Teresa and they tell that they have no idea who could have done it. She is distraught and begs the police to find her daughter. An officer tells that someone saw that it was a white van that took the girl but no numbers on the plate were remembered. King tells Danny that they need to find the little girl quick because Teresa is diabetic and she takes insulin shots every 24 hours.

Frank talks to the media and they are a swarm of questions about the lack of police force normally when it comes to minorities. Frank dodges every bullet and eventually tells them to get the picture of Teresa everywhere and to run the story so that they have a better chance at finding her. Later in his office, the mayor enters Frank’s office and tells that he hears that Frank’s son is lead detective on the case. He asks if he wants that type of publicity and tells that Frank also wants to tone down the “since I’ve been chief” rant and follow the basics. Otherwise, it will go bad for him. Danny gets a call from Frank and he tells that he doesn’t have to worry about not having the resources because he has them if he needs them. Danny looks at a picture of his son with a doll and asks if anyone checked the doll’s manufacture. King says that they haven’t. This gives Danny an idea and he calls China. After waiting for a while, he gets someone who speaks English. They tell that the doll is not ready for distribution and three testers have them.
Danny follows the trail and find out the first dolls is with a lady who still is with her doll. They go to the second address and find out that he still has his doll and after seeing all the dolls in the guys place, he tells that he reviews dolls. They leave and Danny gets a call on the third and they have the address. Meanwhile, Jamie and his sergeant are on break and he asks what a Harvard graduate is doing on the beat. Jamie tells that he has always wanted to be a cop. He tells that he knew his brother Joe, the one who got shot, and that he was a great officer. They get a call of a domestic dispute and they leave. Danny and King arrive at the house of the third doll and a woman walks out. She has a cross that she keeps playing with around her neck as she tells that her soon-to-be ex husband is staying at a hotel. They go to the hotel and find the van. At hotel room 207, Donald Vance answers the door and Danny and King enter. Danny asks where the little girl is and he tells that he doesn’t know what he is talking about. Danny arrests him and King reads him his rights. He laughs and says that he will call his lawyer and he’ll be out in and hour. After that he says that he’ll see his niece then. Danny snaps and takes Donald to the bathroom and King tells that they need to take him to the station. Danny tells that a girl is in danger and he tells Donald to tell where the girl is. After dunking his face in the toilet and banging his face on the side of the toilet, Donald gives Danny a key to a storage locker.

They arrive at the locker and Danny saves Teresa. In the car, Donald is shouting that Danny assaulted him and that he was almost drowned. In the judge’s chambers, District Attorney Erin Regan-Boyle is trying to fight the charge and Donald’s lawyer says that the confession was forced. Erin asks for a little time for the police to build a case before they let Donald walk. The judge grants for the weekend only. Danny is waiting outside the courtroom and asks how it went. She tells that he has until Monday and tells that he went too far. They argue about what Danny did to Donald and he tells that he will prove that he is the kidnapper. Danny arrives at Frank’s and brings meat for the Sunday dinner. He tells that he knows and Frank asks if Danny took the classes. Danny says that he didn’t and Frank tells that there is no harm talking about what happened in Iraq. Later that evening, Sidney and Jamie meet with friends and they ask about Jamie’s new job. Jamie tells that they found a kid who was pushed down the stairs. Sidney tells that she needs a cigarette. Jamie follows and she tells that she is happy that Jamie graduated, but she is scared of the job that he is in. Sidney goes inside and Jamie sees Frank kiss a woman goodbye.
Danny finds some evidence on other cases that could fit Donald’s M.O. Erin and her daughter, Niki set the table for Sunday dinner. The family gets together and everyone is there besides Danny. His wife tells that he’ll try to make it. During the blessing of the food, Danny walks in. Immediately Erin goes off on Danny and he retaliates. Frank’s dad takes Danny’s side and Frank tries to break up the argument. Danny gets a call and tells that Tampa Florida evidence is in and that he has to leave. He stops and asks Erin what she would do if Niki got kidnapped and they had a suspect that wouldn’t talk. After dinner, Erin comes downstairs and says that she didn’t mean to argue with Danny and that she would have shot Donald, but she has to obey the law. Frank tells that she has to do her job. Frank talks to Jamie alone in the kitchen and asks about his relationship with Officer Romano. He tells that she is only a friend. Jamie asks if there are any new women in his life. He dodges the question with the statement that he always thinks about his wife. Danny enters the station and sifts through the information. Jamie is walking down the street and is stopped by Agents Anderson and Sico from the FBI. They show him a “Blue Templar” ring and Jamie doesn’t believe that there is a secret society in the New York Police Department. They try to recruit him and Jamie starts to leave. Sisco plays a recording of Joe, his brother, and they ask Jamie to finish what his brother started.

Danny wakes up people and tells that they have three hours until Donald is released. Teresa enters with her mother and gives Danny a cake. Danny says thank you and King tells that it makes it so much better to find the evidence. Danny stumbles upon an article of a missing girl named Kathy and sees the same cross around the little girl’s neck that Mrs. Vance had around her neck. They go to her house and she shows that the name “Kathy” is inscribed on the back. In Erin’s office, she calls the judge to extradite Donald to Florida for the murder of Kathy and the judge agrees. They won. Erin apologizes to Danny and tells that he needs to watch himself better. Jamie walks onto a Pier and meets with Frank. They are fishing and Frank tells that he is seeing someone. Frank tells Jamie that he doesn’t like to lie and asks what is going on with Jamie. He tells that it is just new to him and he is still getting used to it. Frank is worried that Jamie is not telling the whole truth and Jamie asks if Frank is keeping tabs on him. Frank replies, “I have vested interests”.
