The Maggots in the Meathead - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The show opened with an elderly man joyfully using his metal detector on a lovely day on the beach. He found a few coins and eagerly searched further down the beach, discovering a costly silver chain. He pulled on the chain, finding it stuck on something heavy buried in the sand. He tugged harder on the chain and pulled up a decomposing body, mostly skeleton by now.
Special FBI Agent Seeley Booth and his blond girlfriend, Hannah, were pictured enjoying a bouncing bed scene when her phone rang, her boss summoning her to a breakfast at the White House the next morning for a presidential briefing on something important. Just after, Seeley's phone rang, Bones telling him to come meet her at the beach. Booth and Bones came to the grisly scene, working together to determine why the corpse was in such an advanced state of decomposition, complete with leaping maggots. Bones gingerly held a small jar near the bounding maggots, managing to catch a few within it. They both commented that they had never seen such active maggots and wondered what was making them jump like that.
The corpse was taken to the Jeffersonian for further investigation into the death of the young male. He was determined to be a "guido", a member of a young men's body building local group, some of who ingested steriods and energy drinks. The maggots were found to be high on ephedra, an ingredient found in energy drinks, thus the leaping actions.
Hodgins, freshly returned from a sojourn in a local mental facility, found the corpse to have several fractured vertebrae and the skull harboring a sizable concrete sliver. It was assumed that a large piece of concrete was used to hit Richie over the head, jamming the head down on the vertebrae and shattering them, causing instant death.

Seeley and Bones headed into town, going into a nightclub where guidos were known to hang out and dance with girls. While there, they witnessed a fight between two guidos who wanted the same girl. One of them was cooled down by the other participant dumping an entire large bag of ice on him. A waiter ran out and begged them to stop, and to leave the ice alone, since he had to answer to his boss for every single cube. The de-icer left the scene when Booth approached.
Bones stood before the lone guido, mimicking his fighting posture, glibly interpreting his slang for Booth, who didn't seem to need her translation. Booth questioned the man as to whether he had any knowledge of the victim, Richie, and whether he knew if Richie had had any enemies. He was told that there was a female stalker who had been soundly rebuffed by Richie when she asked him for a date, incurring her wrath, prompting her to tell him he would die. The texts and phone messages between the two had been recovered, mostly texting slang, which indicated that the spurned woman had indeed threatened the victim. She had been furious that he had done his very best to avoid her, even going so far as to text his friends to find out where she was so that he could stay away from that area. He wanted nothing to do with her. She was just self deceived. The suspect, Marie Galosso, when questioned by Booth, denied having anything to do with the victim's death, claiming she would not, could not, ever do anything like that. She was released.
Richie's girlfriend was also questioned and released.
Booth asked Hannah, his girlfriend, to move in with him and she happily accepted. Hannah asked Bones what sort of housewarming gift she should buy Booth and Bones muttered something about a new phone. Bones apparently thought that Hannah had doubts that Bones and Booth had just been friends and not lovers. Bones hurriedly tried to assure her that that was just what they were, just good friends and that she, Bones, knew that nothing more could ever have happened between the two of them. Hanna was amused by Bones' stammered assurance and told her not to worry, that she knew Booth too well to think that he would be anything more to Bones. Bones flushed and was a little taken aback by all this, but in the end, friendship was restored between the two women.
Hodgins' wife, Angela, confessed to a female staff member that she had been feeling ill in the mornings and the staff member replied that she must be pregnant. Angela's eyes grew wide as she begged the member not to tell any one, especially Hodgins, about this. The woman said she would keep it their ltttle secret and Angela sighed with relief. Hodgins just happened to appear in the doorway and the two women had to scramble with some excuse as to their excited tones and flushed cheeks. He somehow still didn't believe them, but left with a bewildered expression on his face. He still seemed to suspect that something was indeed going on, however.
Richie Genaro's girlfriend told Booth that he and she had been deeply in love and that he was thinking of attending college to further his career. She encouraged the investigators to watch tape from the nightclub and see if there had been anyone who might have been stalking the victim. Booth and Bones searched the tapes and were told that a trainer named Terra was a local steroids dealer and bouncer for a nightclub called the Club Elegante who also knew Richie. The victim's mother was also questioned and she vehemently denied that Richie had ever used drugs and that she would "kill" him if she ever found he had used them.

On the nightclub's observation tapes, it seemed as if Booth and Bones had finally discovered the victim's stalker/assailant, but looks could possibly be deceiving. That led the investigative team on a wild goose chase that came to an abrupt surprise ending that left the viewer scratching their head and wondering why the murderer could have done it!
