Moments after Booth and Brennan unearth the skeletal remains of a young girl, it becomes clear they aren't dealing with just any murder case. Hodgins, Zack and Cam confirm this back at the lab when they discover that the cause of death points straight to Howard Epps, a convicted serial killer who has been on death row for years; Brennan's previous testimony in his case gave Epps a stay of execution. Booth interrogates Epps, seemingly to no avail, but after finding a clue on the deceased girl that leads them to another young body - this one only a week old - they realize that Epps is forcing them to play a deadly game. As the body count rises, Brennan and her team scramble to decipher Epps' cryptic clues in a desperate effort to find his cold-blooded accomplice. The team is pushed even further when it is revealed that the latest victim may still be alive, with only hours left to live. As precious seconds tick away, Brennan and her team must test their limits and confront their fears to save a young girl from becoming a victim.

Episode Quotes

Booth: The last time Bones saw Epps it got violent.
Cam: You'll be there to protect her.
Booth: She's not the one who needs protecting. Bones broke his wrist.
Temperance: He touched me with his creepy serial killer hands.

Caroline Epps: Dr. Brennan, I'm not one of those crazy women who falls in love with death row killers.
Temperance: Obviously, that's exactly what you are.

(To the nun at the school.)
Booth: I'm Catholic. I go,... I go to mass every Sunday. Well, almost every Sunday, I'm very trustworthy.

Temperance: She's an innocent child.
Howard Epps: She's a young woman. There's no such thing as an innocent woman.

Temperance: Tell us the name of the mail carrier.
Post Master on the Phone: I can do better than that. All I ask is when this goes to the press, nobody uses the word - disgruntled.

Booth: We're done. You'll never see us again.
Howard Epps: I'm pretty sure your wrong about that Agent Booth.

Cultural References

Booth: St. Agnes - patron saint of young women.

St. Agnes, according to legend, was born of a noble Roman family and when she refused to marry a man, was ordered to be executed. It was against the law to execute a virgin, so she was also ordered to be raped. Her virginity is said to have been miraculously preserved though.

Hodgins: Freemason's symbol? Hey, this explains the buried face down thing. Ahh, it's all starting to come together. These crossed hammers proves Epps is working fro the top level of the Illuminati

The Freemasons are a fraternal group or organization who throughout history was thought to be a secret society. They now are view more like a society with a secret. They do exist and are very private about their matters.

The Illuminati is often a reference to a dark group shrouded in conspiracy. It's members are thought to be the most powerful and influential people in the world and it is these people that often control world affairs. There is no real evidence that such a secret society exists on this scale.
