In the series, Temperance Brennan is an anthropologist who writes about a character named Kathy Reichs in her spare time. In real life, Kathy Reichs is an anthropologist who writes about the character Temperance Brennan.

Angela Montenegro's middle name is "Pearly Gates," a reference to ZZ Top member Billy Gibbons' guitar. Throughout the series, Angela's father is played by Billy Gibbons.

Despite being a grad student during the series, Eric Millegan (Dr. Zack Addy) is one year older than T.J. Thyne (Dr. Jack Hodgins), two years older than Emily Deschanel (Dr. Temperance Brennen) and four years older than Michaela Conlin (Angela Montenegro).

The Royal Diner, which is often frequented by Booth and Bones, is a real diner in Washington near New Jersey.

The main theme is composed and performed by The Crystal Method.

The series is filmed in Los Angeles, California at the 20th Century Fox lot in Century City.
