Season 4 of "Boston Legal" begins with a big change. Brad Chase (Mark Valley), Denise Bauer (Julie Bowen), Paul Lewiston (Rene Auberjonois), and Claire Simms (Constance Zimmer) are no longer starring characters and Carl Sack (John Larroquette), Katie Lloyd (Tara Summers) and Jerry Espenson (Christian Clemenson) are now part of the starring cast. Also joining during the season are Lorraine Weller (Saffron Burrows) Whitney Rome (Taraji P. Henson) .

Highlights of the season include the trial of Joseph Washington, the trial of Patrice Kelly and Abby Holt suing her school for only teaching abstinence-only and doing away with safe sex. We also learn this season that Brad Chase is working for the D.A.'s Office as an A.D.A. and that Denise is on extended maternity leave. Also, Denny shoots an environmentally concerned man with a paint ball gun and is sued, as well as Alan helping out Clarence Bell with legal trouble. Also, a Massachusetts city wants to secede from the USA and another wants to create a nuclear warhead.

Notable guest stars include Mark Valley, Rene Auberjonois, Meredith Eaton, Tom McGowan, Christopher Rich, Gail O'Grady, Chris 'muMs' Grant, Kay Panabaker, Anthony Heald, & Mare Winningham.
