Another week of Auditions for Britain’s Got Talent and this week we are in the home to the two hosts of Britain’s Got Talent, Dec and Ant. The stage is set in Newcastle where we got to hear about a little bit of the history of our two favorite hosts. The judges Pierce Morgan, Amanda Holden, and Simon Cowell, the man you love to hate, came in and were ready to see if they could find that raw talent they want for the winner of the slot in the Queen’s Royal Variety Show and a prize of ₤100,000. With mild joking about the hometown of Dec and Ant, the judges were in good spirit to start up the competition in the city. Do the hopefuls have what it takes in Newcastle to become the big winner?
First on the stage was a dance troupe called A.K.A with ages ranging from 10 years old to 20 years old. The dance group showed that they had the spirit and talent with their shimmering gowns and perfect unison dancing to a Tina Turner song. Simon called it dizzying and he had a hard time keeping up, but thought it was good dancing with a lot of energy. Thus, the kids got yes across the panel and opened the way for good talent for the first timer city of Newcastle. However, this was not the case when the next three acts showed to be horrible. With Greg Snowdon showing of his “dancing” that turned out to be him running around the stage in a circle and Nocola making the auditorium as quiet as a funeral home with her comedy attempt. This prompted Simon to say, “You are as funny as a cucumber” This was ended with yet another cross dresser named Gary who strutted right on stage and right off the stage rather quickly to what Simon called, “Her-rend-us.” It looks like Newcastle has hit a little snag in their talent. But we got to get to know a little more of the past of Ant and Dec when they revealed that they worked in the same theater as the auditions.
First on after the break a magician act tries to rekindle the fire from the previous failures Britain’s Got Talent has had in past years. This was in the form of Clay and Claire. The act was decent magician activity but the flute playing from Claire was torturous to hear as Clay performed magician acts that involved doves. Simon was against it and called the flute playing distracting. Pierce called it hypnotizing and liked it and Amanda liked it as well. Upon hearing that Claire was playing the flute in the next round, Simon automatically said no. Thus, the flute player and the magician make it through to prove that they have what it takes to be number one. This set off a montage of buzz free performances from an acrobatic and contortionist act that impressed the judges, a 16 year old girl named Georgia who sang her way into the hearts of the judges, and a Duo dance team that showed the crowd that they had what it takes to which Simon replied, “Newcastle’s got talent.”
After the break a boy band group named “Connected” entered and we heard how they are connected as brothers even though they are only friends. The dream is to be the next boy band of the century. The boys opened up with “I want it that way” by Backstreet Boys and impressed the audience. Truly the raw talent that as Pierce put it, “We’ve got something here”. Amanda loved it. But Simon said that it was 15 years too late. They allowed the boys to sing a second song to see if they could change the mind of Simon. They sang “Ain’t No mountain high enough” and wowed the audience once again for their rendition of the Golden Oldie song. Simon stood by his decision but still gave the boys a chance and gave them a yes. So we get to see this singing act again in the next round of tryouts and get to hear the soulful sound of “Connected”.
Back in Manchester again and ready to get another raw talent to add to the collection. However, this was a wrong assumption when Jeff Dabyshire made a mockery of the Britain’s Got Talent stage by stripping off his clothes and sported an elephant Speedo, singing, and jump roping around the stage. Quickly the judges buzzed him off the stage to which Jeff showed his displeasure by smacking a cheek as to tell the judges off. However, Manchester recovered in the way of a 14 year old girl named Olivia Archibald who wanted to show the judges that she had talent with her singing. With the song choice of the complicated song “In the arms of an Angel” by Sarah McLaughlin, Olivia showed the judges that she had enough talent and even got a “Wow” from Simon during her performance. Amazing with her pitch perfect voice, Amanda called it “Spellbinding”, Pierce said that she sang it beautifully, and Simon was very impressed giving Olivia the free pass to the next round.
Newcastle closes the show with a duo singing group called “Different Dreams”. Friends Chantel and Ruth attempt to win over the judges to show that Newcastle is worth coming back to, but it became very clear of that only one had a shred of talent and the other had none. So the friends are torn apart and Chantel attempts to have a go on her own. The judges however were not happy with the results. Pierce seemed to feel bad for the girl and gives Chantel another chance, but Amanda and Simon say that it was just not good enough. Britain’s Got Talent ends on a low note this episode with a tone deaf duo that walked off to “The Winner Takes it All” by Abba. Despite the last act, Newcastle proved to have some hidden talent in the midst of the thousands who auditioned. Thus, the episode ends and we have wait for a next set of Auditions of Week 4 and get to hear more from our favorite judges and their witty comments and reactions to the variety of talent that are yet to come!
