Series 4 - Auditions 5 - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->

Round five of the auditions on Britain’s Got Talent and judges Pierce Morgan, Amanda Holden, and Simon Cowell are back with plenty of acts to perform for them. Along with hosts Ant and Dent, they find themselves in Cardiff. With judges ready to go, the first act, Marleen Hardy enters the stage bearing gifts for the judges. This is not the first nor the last time will we see performers giving gifts to the judges. The gifts were: Devil horns for Simon, Rabbit ears for Amanda and a nice bow tie for Pierce. She even managed to give Dec and Ant some souvenirs as well! However the gifts did not help her attempt at singing as she attempted to sing a song and made it torturous that I bet the judges wished there were earmuffs on those ears they were wearing. So it is a no for 62-year-old Marleen and the judges got to keep their presents to remember this performer.

The torture continues when Ryan O’Malley sings “You raise me up” and admits that he needs to stick to his day job after his performance. Jamie Harding dressed in a blue suit completely from head to toe and it turned down by a slew of buzzes when he attempts to dance around the stage. Finally with Pukka Productions showing that they don’t have any talent at all when dressed as fairy tale creatures are denied a spot. However, this seemed to want to stop but has it? This is when the next performer entered. Alan James is introduced and you think that a writer of his own songs for a while would be good. Through a tone deaf performance and a depressing song, Amanda called it depressing and he misses his chance to get into the next round.

The Britain’s Got Talent stage moves and first up in London, after the break, is16-year-old Josh Berry who wanted to show that he had a nice set of pipes on him and with the song “My Girl” by the Temptations he was going to show it. Right from the first note, it was apparent that the kid’s got something and starts to put his own tone to the song that would make this Temptation’s classic a modern hit. With a real soul sound, Amanda loved it and says that he has a lot of potential. Pierce called it brilliant and Simon called it a band performance. However, this did not make Simon say no to the pant sagging teen and he gets to treat us with another number in the next round.

London represents after the break even more with a slew of good performers. First up “Mystika”, a belly dancing duet that impress at least two of the judges a great deal and upon hearing yes from Simon the girls say it is such a great thing. Simon simple smiles and says, “I know”. This is followed by a Julia Makarowa who performed a circus act and impresses the judges when she twirls downward on cloth stopping only inches. Next was “The Synergy Stunts” who showed that they got the moves as they dance around the stage and were very entertaining. The acts get through to the next round and many are wondering, “Can London keep up the record?” Apparently it can when the next performers are introduced.

Up next was a Street Dance act called “Twist and Pulse”, two buds that like to dance together walk on stage and tell their stories. When the music started these two boys showed that they have the right energy to be considered in the next round with their synchronized dance moves and a very entertaining show. The great thing was this act put a little comedy into their act as they put it “Street Comedy” which is basically a mix of street dancing and comedy. With everyone on their feet at the end of their performance, Pierce called it terrific and Amanda said they showed us a glimpse of what the future has in store with dancing. Simon thought it was interesting as well. So “Twist and Pulse” dance their way into the next round.

In Manchester after the break, the first to perform was “Dead Fish Poets Society” but is immediately booed off the stage with their boring poems. However, the next performer, Mark James, is introduced as an entertainer and it is a little strange how this act is going to be perceived at first. With a phantom mask donned and a cloak, the performer gives little hint to what he is going to do. He walks on stage and the introductions are that he is an entertainer. The music starts and with a side profile view of Mark, he starts to sing not so well. Simon immediately buzzes him but Amanda and Pierce want to see where he is going to go with it. Then suddenly, Mark James switches positions and he is dressed as a female on the other side of his body as he sings the girl part as well. Simon sticks to his opinion from the beginning that he did not want him to go through, but Pierce and Amanda wanted to give this performer a chance to show his stuff. So, this performer has another chance to impress the very opinionated Simon Cowell and see if he can’t change his mind.

The next to perform is Ice a street dance group that is choreographed by two dancers on the sidelines which doesn’t sit with Simon at all. However recognizes that he is rude, he stops. The group walks on stage dressed in matching uniforms with “Ice” written on the back and canes with blocks of ice on top and right off you can tell that these girls and 2 guys know the meaning of street dance. With their polished moves and great use of canes in their dance, they mix a little bit of everything in the street dancing they do know. Pierce called it original and Amanda said it was uniformed and slick. Simon realizes that calling the choreographers out and telling that they need to fire them was rude and decides that he is going to allow them the chance to be more creative in their dances. So Ice is on to the next round with a little dance of victory on the side as well.
