Series 4, Semi Final - 3 - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
It is the 3rd Semi-Finals and a new batch of performers is going to try to win the spot and the chance at the 100,000 pounds and the spot on the Royal Variety Show. The acts are: Starburst, Chloe Hickingbottom, Philip Grimmer, Paul Burling, The Arrangment, Jimmy Forde, Christopher Stone, and Peridot. Will they have what it takes to get their spot in the finals on Saturday? The judges enter and Simon is sporting a new suit, Amanda in a cute purple number, and Pierce in the nice suit he always likes to wear.

The first act up is Starburst and they tell their story of dancing together and that they are going to use the money to get better, cleaner bathrooms. With a jazzy number the girls come out and strut their stuff. These cute little sweeties show their excitement and with twists and turns they sure have kicked it up a notch from their first performance. Ant and Dec make their way through the balloons at the end and Pierce wishes everyone would dance like them and that he had a fun time. Amanda said it was a happy start to the evening and asks if her daughter Jenny could join their group. Ant says that they have stinky bathrooms but Amanda says that she’ll straighten those bathrooms out. Simon joked that the act was lacking color and said it was amazing and a lot better then last time.

Chole Hickenbottom is up and she tells her story about how she is going to sing her heart out and she is only 10 years old! This young singer wants to win this so she can fulfill her dreams. Singing “Moon River”, she enters singing on a moon prop. This old fashioned voice is a joy to listen to. With a few pitch issues it was nice still. They add a chorus behind her and she receives a standing ovation from the audience. Pierce says that she blew the critics out of the water that who said that Britain is running out of talent and said that she was amazing. Amanda agreed that Little Britain’s Got Talent and that it was great. Simon admitted he was wrong with her choosing something contemporary and that she has her own style of singing and to stick to it.

Philip Grimmer the drag queen Madonna impersonator is up and he tells that he is going to show Simon that he has what it takes and that he is going to win his spot in the finals. With a disco ball on stage Philip comes out of it and has background dancers to add to his awkward dancing. He walks out and tosses his jacket to Simon and “attempts” to be sexy. It was kind of comical to watch his horrible dancing and the fact that he thinks he is the best. Dec called it “special” but the audience loved it. Philip tells that it is his birthday is today and that it would be a good birthday present for him to go to the finals. Pierce said that it was entertaining. Amanda felt that it wasn’t stepped up enough and Simon joked that he would love to see Philip win the whole thing, go to the Royal Variety Show and have front row tickets next to the Royal Family. Things are not looking good for Philip, but he leaves with spirits high.

Paul Burling, celebrity impressionist, is up and tells the story of him being a comedian for 25 years and he starts off doing celebrity impressions from the British television and other personalities and is a crowd favorite. His impressions got the audience on their feet. Pierce loved it and said that he is the best impressionist they’ve ever had. Amanda called him “Bloody Brilliant”. Simon agrees with Amanda and it seems that Paul has his spot secured already. But, of course it is up to the world of course.

The Replacement is up and they want to bring a little more variety to the show. With the piano, the drums, and violins, Jonathan, the front man of the group, impresses the crowd and gets Amanda bouncing in her chair. Amanda tells Simon what song they are covering throughout their performance. And the crowd goes crazy! Pierce tells them that they are not the best performers of the season but, they have personality and are slightly crazy and that they are a great act. Amanda calls the musicians great and fabulous. Simon still doesn’t know what to make of them yet but they were good despite his uncertainty.

The next performer is green bearded leprechaun Jimmy Forde. This 75 year old Irish man is an Irish Step dancer. Simon is not happy that he is put through in the video. The leprechaun enters and spends time telling people to stay away from his gold. With Irish Step dancing, they add girls to dance with him. Granted it is good Irish Step dancing but it is not going to go through to the final that is for sure. Pierce thought it is good to see the older generation still able to perform. Amanda was left wanting more. Simon gets the act after the act is explained to him as authentic Irish dancing from Louis Walsh who was there to watch his act that he put through to the finals.

Next up after the break is Christopher Stone and his story says that his life as an accountant can be boring and that he has always wanted to be a singer. He is determined to believe in himself and show the judges what he is made of. Singing “The Impossible Dream”, Christopher’s voice is a joy to listen to. This singing accountant has perfect pitch throughout the entire song and he receives a standing ovation from the audience and even from Pierce! This made Pierce to say that he was a great singer and Amanda agreed with Pierce. Simon liked to see the transformation and he nailed the song and is very proud of him.

The last act for the evening is Peridot. In their video Peridot say that they are excited and have worked hard for where they are. They say that their act is unique and that no body is doing it. The judges believe that they are going to have to step it up and they are going to prove that they are the ones to be if they have a chance to get to the finals. With dancing in synch and matching outfits, these dancers impress the audience to all stand on their feet. The boys celebrate their dance afterwards, but Pierce was a little disappointed that there was not enough dancing. Amanda agrees with Pierce and says that the bar was set so high for the dance acts that they didn’t match up to it and starts to bring Diversity, last year’s winners, into it. Simon says that you can’t compare the dancers now from the last year’s dancers and that they are the best dance group of the season. With all the performers done, the lines open up and now it is up to the world to see who goes through to the final!
