Call Mom - Recap

Sarah is interested in Luc, he looks awesome. However, he's very
distracted. He doesn't want to be touched since he just went through a
spray tan. She asks if they can have a romantic date tonight, and he
says sure. He leaves after a very stingy kiss.

Justin walks in on Nora practicing her radio voice. She finally tells
him that she has an audition today, and he's very excited for her. She
says they're going to call the show "Dear Mom", and she might be the
mom. She wants him to ask her anything so she can see if she has an
answer for him. He asks how long he has to wait after eating before he
can go swimming, and she tells him no; a real, serious question. He's
over at 7:00 a.m. why? So he tells her that since Rebecca left, he can't
sleep. He goes running, he still can't sleep. She is ready to cancel the
audition, and he tells her no. Practice with his problem. She totally
blows it. She decides to send chocolate cake home with Justin so he'll
feel better.

Scotty asks Kevin why he never came to bed last night. Kevin recites
everything that's going on in his legal life, and ends with the
announcement that it all boils down to the fact that somebody who
shouldn't have had kids, had kids. He's angry because he and Scotty
can't go out on a first date and get knocked up. They have to spend
thousands of dollars on a surrogate, and even at that they can still end
up where they started. Scotty thinks they could afford to try again, but
Kevin says he's so busy he'd neglect both Scotty and the kid. When he
turns to leave, Scotty asks him to come home and come to bed early
tonight, he misses him. Kevin retorts that as soon as his head hits the
pillow, he'll be asleep.

Kitty and Jack went out for a run, and it was a doozy. She says she
can't feel her legs, but he can, and that leads to a kiss. She needs a
shower, and he offers to join her. That's when Justin walks in
unannounced. He feels bad and tries to back out, but Kitty insists he
stay. When Jack goes to get the fish for dinner, Justin and Kitty talk.
He asks again if it's okay for him to be there, and she's absolutely
positive. Justin is happy, he really needs some time with his sister.

The station manager tells Nora if it was up to him, the job would
already be hers. But the powers that be are thinking they might want to
go in a different direction. Today she's going to do a test show, she'll
be live on the air, answering questions. The station called in Dr.
Alexandra Kirby as well. Nora knows her as Dr. Alex. She arrives and
starts talking a mile a minute, giving Nora a big hug somewhere in the
middle there.

Sarah is asking Scotty what would be good in a picnic for her and Luc.
She tells Scotty about the incident with the spray tan that morning.
Also, it's been weeks. He tells her don't be insecure, Luc loves her.

Justin pours his out heart to Jack. Jack tells him that going through
the loss is like jumping in a really cold lake. You have to do it, and
it's never as cold as you thought it was going to be. Justin likes the
sentiment, and asks if Jack has talked to Kitty about Robert yet. He
says he hasn't, and he doesn't think she wants to just yet. Kitty is
standing right there for the entire exchange. Justin asks if he said
something wrong, and Kitty says no. Actually, she and Jack are more than
just friends. She is afraid Justin is going to judge her. Justin thinks
Jack is great, and he's not remotely Kitty's type. She asks what he
means by that, and he says Jack has probably never worn a suit. Is he
republican or democrat? She doesn't know, and that means he's not her
type but congratulations, Justin says; you just jumped. He leaves so
they can "have lunch". He's going to go have a shake at a place he was
avoiding because he'd only ever been there with Rebecca.

Nora is going to ask questions for two hours, and then Dr. Alex will do
the same. However, she went upstairs and talked to the guys in charge
because she thought it would be much more fun if they went on the air
together. Dr. Alex refers to it as a "Two mom smackdown". Nora says she
doesn't have the right shoes for a smackdown. Dr. Alex gets her way and
Nora is a nervous wreck. As soon as she walks out, Nora calls Kevin. He
arrives as fast as he can. He's as supportive as he can be, and she goes in.

Kevin arrives at the shake place, and sees a beautiful blond working
there. She teases him about talking to himself over there. She gives him
a shake on the house. She recognizes the bad break-up syndrome and
invites him on a date. Great band playing, she gets off in a couple of
hours. He says sure.

The show's host introduces Nora and Dr. Alex. Nora sounds very shy and
hesitant, and Dr. Alex sounds like she lives on the radio.

Sarah gets a call from Luc that he didn't mean to make, so she overheard
him talking to some woman, everything sounds quite heated and sexual.
She hangs up and calls Scotty.

Nora disagrees with Dr. Alex. She says when your children reach a
certain age, you have to let them be themselves. Kevin calls in and
tries to help Nora talk about her specialty, baking. Dr. Alex rips the
call away from her and shows Nora up. Kevin unloads about feeling
distant from Scotty. Dr. Alex says they are suffering from womb envy,
and she covers that subject in her new book, available online.

Jack and Kitty start to make love, and she changes her mind. She says
she can't do this, and walks out. She gets dressed and starts packing.
She says a month ago she was married. She may have been kissing him, but
she was thinking about Robert. She and Jack live completely different
lives, and this is never going to work.

The radio show breaks for the news. Nora decides she's going to tell the
host she's sick, and she's going home. Kevin talks to her. She asks what
she's ever accomplished, and he tells her, ME. She accomplished Kevin,
Kitty, Sarah, Justin. The host tells her her mic wasn't muted, and the
whole building could hear her.

Sarah and Scotty show up to check on Luc. It's nothing, but she leaves
very upset and Luc doesn't make a serious effort to stop her. She gets
home and remembers the early days with Luc, when he found out about the
underwear campaign.

Kitty calls to ask Kevin where Nora is, and he has her call her at the
station, so she's on the air with mom. Kitty tells her that she's at her
mom's house. Dr. Alex tries to take over the call, and Nora takes it
back. Kevin calls Justin to tune in to mom on the radio. Nora tells her
she'll know when it's time to move on. Justin drives away, breaking his
date. Nora turns to Kevin and tells him there's no such thing as womb
envy. He wants a child. He tried, and it didn't work out. He's going
through the grief and sadness, just like Katherine is. She tells him
that unacknowledged feelings are like drunken feelings at a family
reunion: they never shut up so you can hear anyone else. When she's done
talking to Kevin, she asks Kitty if she heard that, and Kitty says "I
have to go, mom." Jack is at the door, at Nora's.

Jack tells Kitty his story. He had a place on Mulholland, when he was a
successful investment banker. He became disillusioned, and sold
everything before moving up to Ojai. He wants her to know that maybe
they're not as different as she thinks they are. They kiss.

Sarah has a drink at home while she waits for Luc to get home. She
apologizes, but he says it's not necessary. They talk, it's very
stilted. She fears he's given up his passion, painting, and is giving
himself to the modeling life and everything that goes with it. He goes
to the bookcase and reaches behind books. He says this is what he bought
with his first check, but he never gave it to her because he knew he
wasn't the man she deserved, the painter she fell in love with. If he
became that man again, could she consider being his wife? She says yes.

Nora got the job. They loved her honesty, and more importantly, she cost
a lot less than Dr. Alex. She was very mean to Nora before she left. Dr.
Alex has no relationship with her children. Nora gives her advice on how
to get back into her children's lives.

Kevin comes home and clears the air with Scotty. Kevin wants to foster,
but Scotty says they can't move forward because he cheated on Kevin.
