An Ideal Husband - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Nora is at work, doing her radio show. She gets a call from somebody
wanting to know if her boyfriend is ready to commit. Nora tells her she
called the wrong person, she needs to call her boyfriend and ask him.
She gives her middle son as an example. She thought he'd never settle
down, but now he and his husband have been married for three years, and
they are one of the best couples she knows.

Scotty brings Kevin an espresso, he didn't realize Kevin was still
asleep. On the couch. Kevin said he wouldn't call it sleeping, more like
almost achieving a semi-conscious state. Scotty says there's coffee, if
he'd rather. Kevin asks if he wanted to talk about something, and Scotty
says he wanted to talk about the party tonight. He thinks maybe he
shouldn't go, so Kevin won't be uncomfortable. Kevin says that given the
fact that people paid $150 a plate for Kevin's signature hor d'ourves,
he should probably stay put. Scotty starts to say he knows how upset
Kevin is, but Kevin interrupts to say that's the normal reaction when
you find out your husband slept with someone else. He changes the
subject to the availability of the bathroom before Scotty has a chance
to respond.

Luc scares Sarah when he kisses her awake. His plane wasn't supposed to
arrive until noon. She asks if the gallery liked his work, and he says
he's keeping his fingers crossed. Sarah crosses hers, and Luc notices
she's not wearing her engagement ring. She's not telling anybody until
she told Cooper and Paige. When she did, Cooper asked how long they were
going to be married for, and he was not being sarcastic. So she told him
they'd be married forever, and Cooper said nobody is married forever.
Look at her and dad. Luc says he'll talk to Cooper when he gets back.
Sara thinks that's a good idea, Cooper believes everything Luc says. Luc
tells her she should, too - that is why she is going to wear her ring
tonight for everyone to see. When he goes in the bathroom, Sarah pops
the top on her ring box, looks at the ring, then shuts the box.

Jack and Kitty wake up in the same bed. He's leaving to take a yoga
class. He's a morning person. He's got an appointment with a small
investment banking firm. She tells him nothing's changed, it's the same
crazy L.A. that he left. But the firm he's interviewing at is all about
new ideas, so he's going to give it a shot.

Kevin is in a fight with the coffee machine. Scotty wants to help,
because Kevin is sleep-deprived. Scotty offers to sleep on the couch.
Kevin doesn't want to sleep in their bed, even if nothing happened in
it, nor does Kevin want his family to know. It's humiliating. Scotty
wishes he'd never told him, and Kevin asks why he did. Scotty said he
loves him, and he knew he owed him the truth. Kevin says no. What he
owed him was fidelity. The discussion is cut short with the arrival of
Sarah. She goes into Kevin's office to get a pad and pen and notices the
couch has been slept on. He claims they had a house guest, Barbara.
Sarah says to tell Barbara that she left Kevin's shoes, socks, tie and
shirt on the floor.

Nora arrives and tells Kevin that she featured him and Scotty as a great
marriage on her show. Sarah tells her that Kevin slept on the couch, and
they both assume he's in the dog house. They tease him so much that he
admits that Scotty cheated. So much for your great marriage. He excuses
himself to get ready for court, and leaves Sarah and Nora in shock,
looking at Scotty.

Sarah pours wine for Nora and herself, now that they're in the Twilight
Zone. Justin joins them, as Scotty asked him to be the bartender at the
dinner that night. They tell him that Scotty cheated, and he doesn't
believe it. Sarah doesn't know why not. Dad cheated, Joe cheated; why
not Scotty? Justin says Scotty's not that dude. He's not a cheater. They
all know that. So what happened? Sarah said maybe when it comes to
marriage, love just isn't enough. Nora asks her not to talk like that.
She becomes very upset, and starts to leave. Sarah asks where she's
going, and she says to talk to Kevin. His is the one Walker marriage
that is not going to go down in flames.

Kitty invites Kevin to come over to her place tonight. They can make
sundaes. He says she has the charity dinner, she's one of the draws. She
doesn't want to be a draw. They can have a slumber party, like they
used to. He says no, isn't Jack living there now? No, he stays over
intermittently. She tells him that she and Robert made so many mistakes,
and they got through it. When he and Scotty calm down, they can talk
this out. He asks if she expects him to just forgive and forget, and he
says oh, of course you do. You had an affair with that guy in the park.
Kitty says nothing happened between her and Alex. Scotty says you kissed
him, and even if you hadn't, you had an emotionally intimate
relationship with him that you withheld from your husband. Kitty tries
to tell him she doesn't condone cheating, but he's not listening. He IS
going to the party tonight, because he lives there, that's where his
office is. Have Scotty over for sundaes.

Scotty says hi to Saul, who doesn't answer. He knows? Yes, he spoke to
Nora. Change in menu. Mushrooms are wilted, so they'll make ricotta
fritters instead. Scotty offers to help, but Saul turns him down. Scotty
asks him not to just ignore him, so Saul erupts. He's at a loss. How
could Scotty do that!? Things were terrible back then. It was two months
after the accident. Robert was in a coma, Michelle had just lost their
baby. That's how terrible. He fills Saul in on the specifics.

Kevin was trying to move a big piece of furniture so he could plug in
the new cable. Scotty asked if they really had to do that now, since he
has seven hours til his restaurant's grand opening. Kevin insists, so
Scotty helps him. In doing so, the giant piece of furniture crunches his
hand. He asks Kevin to please pick up his chef jacket at the cleaners,
and Kevin picks then to tell him that a big potential client is coming
into town, and he will probably be at the opening a little late. Scotty
told Kevin that he hardly recognized him.

Saul says Scotty is just making excuses. Not only that, but he's never
been more disappointed in anyone in his life.

The judge on Kevin's client's eviction case is pushing to end the wait.
The client never showed up, they lose. Nora walks in, and the judge asks
if that's her. No, your honor. That would be his mother. Kevin tells
Nora he can't believe she embarrassed him in front of the judge like
that. His soda won't come out of the machine, and what; is he supposed
to hit the machine now? Nora orders him to sit down and breathe. He does
so. He asks if she really said he and Scotty have the perfect marriage
on her show. No, Nora tells him. She said they have one of the best
marriages she knows. Kevin thinks she should air a retraction.

They discuss her marriage. He said he made every effort to pick somebody
that was the polar opposite of Dad. She said he did. Her husband lied to
her year after year, after year; and not just about Holly. Scotty, on
the other hand, told Kevin the truth. He didn't have to. That's worth a
lot.

Luc and Sarah do the laundry and talk about Kevin and Scotty, and
marriage in general. He gets so frustrated with her talking divorce when
he only just proposed, that he lapses into French. Sarah tells him to
knock it off, she knows whatever he's saying is mean, but he's talking
too fast for her to translate. Luc asks if she sees a beautiful orchid,
does she not buy it because she knows it will just die? He says if she
feels that way, then it's off. She says she's just thinking about the
kids, and he tells her then be a parent. Show them the way.

Jack got the job, and the firm wants to go international. They'd be
sending him to Viet Nam. When Kitty reacts in disbelief, he reminds her
that the war has been over for quite some time now. She says that's not
what she was reacting to. Viet Nam is halfway around the world. He
figures she can sublet the house, and she and Evan would go with her and
have the most amazing adventure of their lives. When they met, she said
something about writing a book. What better place to write it? Kitty
can't believe it, and Jack says if she doesn't go with him, he'll find
something else to do because he's not going without her. What she really
meant was she can't believe she is actually intrigued.

Justin discovers that the waiter (Marcus) was the guy who hooked with
Scotty. Kevin arrives and starts flirting with him, but Justin sends him
away, bearing drinks. He asks Kevin to cover the register, and dashes
back to the kitchen to tell him that Marcus is here. Kevin is flirting
with another waiter while he makes the wrong drinks. Jack takes over the
bar, and Kevin flips from happy and flirty to angry and pouty. He walks
away from Kitty while she tries to talk to him.

Scotty asks Justin to send Marcus away. Get him out of there, but use
discretion. He doesn't want Kevin any more hurt than he already is. He
thanks Justin, and tells him that he made a mistake that may cost him
his marriage. He never thought it might cost him his family, too. Before
Justin leaves, he asks Scotty to help him understand how this happened.
Marcus is a douche. How did he wind up with him?

Scotty remembers opening night, being on the phone with Kevin. The
meeting was taking longer than expected. The dining room is full to
capacity. This is the most important night of Scotty's life, and Kevin
isn't there. Scotty practically begs him to put in an appearance, but
Kevin says he'll see him in the morning, and ends the call. Marcus walks
into the kitchen and announces that table 12 looks like they're about to
eat the silverware. He gets their food finished, while Marcus butters
him up by telling him he's a culinary superstar and with that face, he
should clearly have his own reality show. As he's walking away, he tells
Scotty he'll buy him a drink after work. Scotty owns the place, so
Marcus says great. They'll get drunk on him.

Justin points out that Marcus was playing him. He was saying all the
things that scotty wanted to hear from Kevin. Marcus comes in the alley,
bringing out the trash and approaches Scotty. Scotty tells him to leave,
Saul will pay him for the whole night but he needs to leave. He asks
Justin to take care of it.

Kitty tells Sarah about Viet Nam. She's going to think about it. So
Sarah tells her that Luc proposed and she said yes, but then she said
no. The Walker curse. Their marriages don't last, and she doesn't want
to go through that again. Justin walks up to tell them the guy Scotty
slept with is here but Saul is paying him off, and he's leaving. As
Sarah and Kitty are saying what guy, Kevin walks up and overhears. He
wants to know what guy, too. When he realizes what guy, he becomes very
angry.

Nora gets everybody's attention with a bell, and makes the opening
announcement of the charity event for the Grace Hill Historical Trust
Dinner. They applaud and call for the chef. Scotty comes out. Kevin
thinks he put two-and-two together, and slugs the Robb Roy waiter.
Justin slugs Marcus on Kevin's behalf. Scotty stops Kevin, and Marcus
runs out the door. Kevin goes in his office. Scotty follows him. Kevin
finally lets loose. Scotty spoiled everything so, what? So he could
grope a 24 year-old. Scotty says he knows Kevin is angry, but he's
wrong. Kevin's not angry. He's in pain. He expected better from Scotty,
he was supposed to love him more than anything. He was supposed to be
better than this. Scotty says he's not perfect. He's as lost, and
damaged, and screwed up as everybody else. He's not perfect.

Luc arrives home and finds Sarah sitting behind an orchid. He asks what
this is about and she tells him she's never been able to keep a house
plant alive for more than three days. Today was horrible. They saw this
seemingly perfect relationship come crashing down. It reminded her that
life is about taking good care of the plant so it doesn't die. He asks
her if she's committing to the plant. Sarah says she's committing to
marrying him. So can she take back her take back? Luc tells her she can
take back anything she wants. They kiss, and Luc carries her off to bed.

Kitty doesn't know where she stands with Jack anymore. In the morning,
she's considering the possibility he's going to move to L.A. Maybe even
move in with her. By afternoon, she was Googling southeast Asia. Now,
he's talking about getting into solar energy. There's money in green.
She tells him she has a home, and a child. She can't pick up and go
anywhere. Maybe he's just the cute guy she fell for in Ojai.
Transitional. Jack says maybe she was his, too.

Kevin wonders if the waiter is going to sue. Nora says no. His
girlfriend cheated on him last year, and he still wants to punch
somebody. Nora tells Kevin that him punching the guy means something.
Kevin thinks it means he should avoid bourbon. Nora says that too - but
it means he cares enough to fight for his marriage. Literally. Kevin
finally owns his own. Scotty wasn't operating in a vacuum. Kevin picks
up where Scotty left off on the reminiscing. There was no meeting. Kevin
hates himself enough to just sit at a bar and be stuck rather than be
there for Scotty. She wants him to tell Scotty, as it could help. He's
under the misapprehension that Scotty slept with Marcus to punish him
for not being there that night. She says it's not about any of that.
They need to talk so they can get past this. Kevin wants to pretend
"this" never happened, so they can just go back to how things were
before. According to Nora, he needs to tell Scotty before that can
happen. He was brave enough to tell Kevin. Now it's Kevin's turn.

Scotty is doing dishes. Saul apologizes, because Scotty is his family
too. He and Kevin are about as close to perfect as anything he's ever
seen. They're living Saul's dream. Scotty tells him it's all still
possible. Don't give up hope. Saul says he won't if Scotty doesn't.

Justin and Kevin are commiserating in Nora's kitchen. Kitty arrives to
announce that she and Jack broke up. Nora gives her some wine, and Kevin
goes to get her a sundae. Sarah and Luc arrive to make their
announcement. They try to tone it down in Kevin's honor. He calls them
all on the carpet for tiptoeing around him, so Sarah holds up her left
hand. Everybody oohs and aahs over her ring.

Nora talks about marriage again on her show.

Kevin calls Scotty. He's his best friend. Scotty asks him to come home,
and he says no. Scotty asks what they do now, and Kevin tells him what
happened that night.
