Nora is recording a commercial for the station. She's having a hard time
getting through it because it's so lame. She is supposed to say she
takes these vitamins, but since she doesn't, she's not comfortable
saying so. Karl offers to do the recording for her, but the station
manager insists that the advertisers picked Nora, specifically. He gives
her copy for a hotel, and it's so cheesy she can't stand it. She's not
even sure she can bear to read it to Karl, but she does. He thinks it
sounds wonderful. They kiss, but are interrupted by Sarah.
Kitty is having her every day latte, but this time she adds whipped
cream. The guy behind the counter assumes she's having a birthday, but
she just wants to try something new. He sees her reading material, and
she tells him she's teaching a seminar. He prefers fiction. He tells her
he prefers fiction, since it's actually interesting. She gives him some
little known facts about past presidents, and he seats himself and asks
an intriguing question. If she could choose any one president to have
slept with, which would it be? He gives her time to decide, as he
excuses himself. She chooses Lincoln before he gets two steps away.
Surely there's some reason they named a bedroom after him. Her phone
rings, and as she takes it he introduces himself as Seth.
It's Kevin. He's wondering how much emotional eating Kitty did when she
was adopting. He's cleaning out a bakery as they speak. She tells him
not to worry; they're shoo-ins. The social worker is going to love them.
Seth is watching and she notes it to Kevin. He wrote his number on her
coffee cup. Kevin has to end the call to talk to Sarah.
She promptly tells him that she just caught Nora and Karl kissing. He
asks about good preschools, in case the social worker asks. Sarah tells
him there is such a thing as being overly prepared. Luc's leaving to
China tomorrow, so she needs to get moving. Kevin's brownie rebounds on
him, so he ends the call as Nora walks into Sarah's office. She
apologizes about the kiss, and Sarah says she can kiss whoever she
wants. Kevin chimes in and says the same, and Nora rebukes Sarah for not
telling her they weren't alone.
Kevin continues to freak out, take notes and try to control things. One
of Scotty's employees asks where his brownie went. Kevin says he ate it,
but he'll buy him a new one. He can't. The old one was made with medical
marijuana.
Kitty calls Seth, and they wind up making out in the supply closet. He's
only 27. She tells him he's sweet, and heads out the door. He asks her
to call him sometime.
Sarah and Kitty chat about Seth, right up until Luc walks in.
The dean welcomes Kitty.
Scotty postponed the home visit until tomorrow. Kevin is all kinds of
paranoid. This was only the second time in his life that he's been
stoned. Last time, Sarah helped him. He's going to call her.
Nora and Karl are dining out. She wants to talk to him about getting
more intimate. He would like to check into the hotel having the
promotion, so they can be sure they won't be interrupted.
Speaking of interruptions, Sarah accidentally kicks Luc in the eye right
after Kevin calls. She puts ice on his eye and tells him she hopes he
didn't tell Kevin where they are. Just in case, she turns her cell phone
off and somehow manages to dump a bucket of ice in Luc's lap. As he hops
away backwards, he trips over the table. Knocks down a glass and steps
on it, barefoot. He doesn't want a real honeymoon after this sneak one.
Kitty is in bed with Seth. He knew who she was the whole time. He asks
her if she remembers her name. She tries to pretend he never told her,
so finally he tells her. Seth is really good with his hands. They're
both hungry, and would like to get some pizza. He needs to go out
anyway, since he only brought two condoms.
Scotty and Kevin arrive at the hotel so Sarah can work her magic on her
very stoned brother. Sarah swings by the desk to return the first aid
kit, and finds Karl checking in. They are both very surprised. He lies
repeatedly to try to convince her he'll be there alone. Sarah is walking
away, but overhears him tell the desk clerk that he thinks 'she' would
like the complimentary strawberries and cream. She calls back to tell
him "Good luck with your book."
Kevin is in very bad shape. Apparently, everybody was speaking
Portuguese, and Luc was happy he could help translate. Sarah tells him
to lay down, and he drops right there on the floor. She tricks him into
thinking the cops are coming, and makes him reel off a few pertinent
life facts. Now she's going to call Nora, and report Dr. West. She has
Luc and Scotty take Kevin the stoner for a walk to help sober him up, so
she can (change of plans) Call Dr. West and give him what for, for
messing with her mother.
Nora calls Kitty from the hotel, because she's nervous. She was going to
call Sarah, but her phone is off. Kitty tells her not to worry, people
have been having sex for thousands of years. Nora gets on the same
elevator as Seth, and when he goes to push the elevator floor button,
the two drinks on the pizza fly off and spill all over Nora. She goes on
to the room. They are both very nervous. It all feels so premeditated.
They kiss, and now he's covered with soda as well. She goes to clean up,
and that's when Sarah calls. She tells him her mother has real feelings
for him. So if he leads her on, he will have five of them to contend
with. He says he has to go, and Sarah says goodbye.
Seth fills Kitty in on the woman he destroyed in the elevator. Then they
start getting to know each other. Seth is a writer. He's a grad student
in the lit department. She thinks it's unethical, and starts getting
dressed. Seth is getting hurt and finally tells her she wanted to have a
little fun, and now it's over. He tells her that contrary to what she
might think, they're both adults, and he knew what he was getting into.
He leaves over Kitty's apologies.
Nora comes out, and Karl tells her she looks beautiful. He lies about
the phone call being from housekeeping. She suggests he join her in the
hotel robes. He wants to have a talk with her first. She becomes very
upset when he says he wants to make sure they know what they're getting
into. She leaves, because she can't handle the way he's acting.
She goes to Sarah's room, and Sarah admits to making the call that
flipped out Karl. Kitty calls, she's at the hotel as well. When Luc,
Kevin and Scotty walk in, Nora thinks she should jump, and asks what
floor they're on. It's the 8th, and she figures that oughtta do it.
Scotty and Kevin went home with Kitty. Nora says at least it's better
that she knows the truth about Karl now than later. Sarah is all bummed
about Luc going to China for a very long time. She just wishes they had
more time. She gets a text from Karl to meet her in the bar. Since he's
down there, she's going in the room to get dressed. Luc tells her that
as the only man in the room, he'd like to contribute. Dr. West is one of
the good guys. Nora should hear him out.
Kevin says he loves the pizza and Kitty answers in a different language,
just to mess with him. Kevin and Scotty set Kitty straight about Seth.
She needs to live her life for herself, not the dean. It's such an
impassioned speech, Kevin realizes he's finally sober.
Nora has a seat with Dr. West. He just wants to apologize for what
happened upstairs. He was married for 18 months. They talk all about Dr.
West's inability to be honest with his feelings. He doesn't have a great
track record when it comes to intimacy. But what he wants her to know is
that he thinks he might be falling for her, too. He never expected to
meet such an amazing woman at this stage of his life. She tries to take
any pressure off of him, and tells him to text her if he'd like to come
over for a roast chicken dinner some night. He's hungry, and he loves
roast chicken. Looks like dinner is now.
Kitty greets her class.
Scotty takes a call from the social worker. She has to reschedule, as
she has a sick child. Scotty is going to go back to work, but Kevin says
they should have a date. Like a second honeymoon. They should go to
Vegas. That should be far enough to avoid Kevin's family.
Luc wakes up Sarah to say goodbye. He promises to paint as fast as he
can. Karl brings Nora a breakfast tray, berries and coffee. Kitty
returns and apologizes to Seth, and tells him she likes him. They're
going to have a start-over.
