While being forced to take part in the annual Sunnydale High talent show, Giles, Buffy, Xander and Willow discover that danger lurks backstage when people begin dying gruesome deaths. The number one suspect is a student and his ventriloquist dummy, but as Buffy and her friends soon learn, not everything is as it seems.

| Willow: (discussing who the killer might be) The creep factor is also heightened. It could be anyone. It could be me! (everyone turns to look at her) It's not, though.
| Cordelia: (about Emily being murdered) All I could think is "it could have been me."
Xander: We can dream.
| Principal Snyder: There are things I will not tolerate: students loitering on campus after school, horrible murders with hearts being removed... and also smoking.

Cordelia: What?
Giles: Oh, I'm sorry. Um, your hair, uh...
Cordelia: There's something wrong with my hair? (tries to adjust it) Oh, my God!
(Cordelia runs off)
Giles: Xander was right. It worked like a charm.

Xander: In other words, I'm safe!

When Giles tells Cordelia to picture the audience in their underwear, she stops him, verbally, but in only one shot, she actually has him by the arm.

Xander: (as Sid) Redrum! Redruuum!
This is a reference to the classic Stephen King horror novel and movie The Shining. "Redrum! Redrum" was a phrase made famous when the young boy in the story would write and chant it. Spelled backwards, its says "Murder".
| Xander: Does anybody else feel like they've been Keyser Soze'd?
A reference to the movie The Usual Suspects where in a twist, the character Keyser Soze was actually a bad guy, when he was thought to be good.
